SOG Switch Plier 2.0
on: March 25, 2015, 12:59:11 AM
Just got the SOG Switch Plier 2.0 from Academy :D

It seems that SOG is not using the cast peg from the original Switch Plier but a steel pin that protrude on both sides of the pliers head. Someone has to take it appart to confirm. I won't :o

Do you feel strong and reliable?

Thanks!

P.D.: I don´t find it in Academy´s web page!

Actually surprisingly nice so far. It feels sturdy and tightly put together (but definitively on the light duty side). The "switchblade" feature is pretty convenient and seems to be a nice alternative to the Gerbers and Leatherman OHT. I also like the pocket clip but they put it on the wrong side of the tool, in my opinion: when in your pocket, the push button is against your body and might "fire" inadvertently.

I already replaced a couple of tools from the handle since I am not a big fan of the combo blade nor the wimpy file. I now have a plain edge blade and a saw.

Academy here in Tomball (North of Houston, TX) has a couple in stock.

I'd love a review of this tool. Especially would like to know if SOG really had made this version more durable, with a stronger hinge/plier mechanism than the original.

I paid $49 for mine.

Here are a couple of pictures of the SOG SwitchPlier 2.0 next to the Paratool, PowerPlier and the Leatherman Skeletool...

For those who haven't played with a Switchplier they are totally addictive.  Possibly even more so than the Gerber Recoil, and certainly easier to stow the head away.

The pliers on that thing are HUGE! Seems strange to put such big pliers on a pocket tool. Seems like you could design PPP or Skeletool sized pliers and make the tool more pocket friendly

Two points:

- How strong are the pliers? Is is reliable the steel pin for aplying force? It reminds me the pliers in the SOG Powerduo

- It would had been easy a design with external acces to tools with a cover for the handle why not???

They are external acess tools really since the smaller handle lifts up like a cover would.

I am a little shocked at the plier-head to overall tool-size ratio in the above pics. The SOG plier head seems very beefy.......hope the rest of the tool can handle that.
