The skeletool that could be....
on: March 28, 2015, 02:16:48 AM
At long last. It is almost complete. The skeletool with scissors mod. When I first got this I really started to feel it, but I kept thinking that there is room for scissors on this tool. Why wouldn't LM offer this as a variation? So after a few failed tries, I got this. (Thanks to matt2silver for the scissors and the tool is itself on a trade with ducttapetech  :tu:)

I cut down the spacer almost to the pin area at the bottom and put a washer under the scissors to keep them tight and the spring engaged. One unforeseen error was the extra material that sticks out of the scissors end is that when the pliers are opened they don't close fully (better seen on the last pic) so the last thing I have to do is file down the back sides so the pliers can close completely.

The tool itself is still very comfortable to use. There may be different type of scissors that will work better, but this initial test I am very satisfied with it. Hope you all dig it. Mod on.

More pics and a close up on the spacer area. (Sorry for the poor pic quality)

Evil likes scissors on Skeletools  :tu: Project Skeletool is still very much a part of my EDC as it was five years ago. Adding scissors played a major role in that. I had to deal with clearance issues as well with the plier head. In my case it was the height of the spine of the new custom blade.....

Thanks, the entire mod squad here is definitely inspiring. Although I still cannot figure our how you got your scissors in your skeletool  ??? If you ever decide to mass produce those shot me a pm.  ;)

Update:
After brainstorming possible ways to get the plier head to close fully, I sanded down the corner of the scissors and folded them the opposite way into the tool and inverted the carbon fiber piece at the bottom to stop the scissors from coming out the other side and the results were great. The pliers have a very slight gap in them (in the pic it looks larger than it actually is) and the thumb piece of the scissors doesn't get in the way of the ergonomics of using the knife. I also like the way the scissors are more tucked into the tool (more of a cosmetic thing)

I still wonder if vic scissors would work better, being it is only one solid component with the the spring built in, but this is better than nothing. Pics below are the scissors folded in, a close up of the carbon spacer, the pliers opened, and contrast of the knife and thumb stud on scissors. Enjoy

Update: the skeletool is holding up very well. I have it paired with a BN MP600 so I can pretty much tackle anything at work. They compliment each other very well. The skeletool is almost unnoticeable and is a bonus to have both needle nose and blunt nose pliers at hand. The scissors are still kicking, but some type of locking mechanism would help alot. All in all, it's still a plus.
