That's really nice

Can you tell us more about it? Steel, materials, maker?

Well... the steel is not known to me, but it is a Sandvik carbon steel (see the patina). He used maple burl, elk bone and brass as well as leather for the whole projekt.

I can´t say his name but he was a regular member at bladeforums. And a friend of mine. He made it for me as a gift. There is also a handmade leather sheath included that fits perfectly for my lefty needs  :D

That sheath looks like an improvement over what you'd get from Mora. :tu:

Also, the belthoop is reversible.
I havent had much opportunity to play with it, but it is a lot of knife for the money.

Here are some pics:

When you revers it it becomes a pocket clip:

I havent figured out if the hole in the sheath is for hanging it on a rack or something else. (In a pinch it could be used as a small fishingrod :D )

Hole on bottom of sheat is just for letting air travel through to prevent rusting(what i know of it), alltoug you can hang a carabiner through it.

That hole in the middle of clip is for button. It is more or less on all puukko style sheats, and atleast Moras. I placed jeans button to my right tigh, and clipped my Mora Clipper to hang little lower for easier access.

I have had intention of asking you guys wether you use that button option on your sheats...

I don't know why, but that knife just does it for me in a big way..... :salute: :tu:

Found the article in KI, that name I couldn't remember was the Cold Steel Sisu.

I've held a very abused Tapio Wirkkala, and I was told the owner has another in perfect condition - the thought alone gives me sleepless nights.

It does it for me as well....it's easy on the eyes and very functional as well. I put it on a diamond stone last night and in about 2 min, it would push cut paper. The thin grind is amazing.

I did some research on it last night and apparently there two versions (and two sizes),
The first has a 4" blade, thicker blade stock and a squarish pommel stud. The other is newer, has a 4 1/8" blade, thinner blade stock and a round pommel stud. I used to have the latter but this one is the older version. This may be why this one seems heavier than I remember.

This is copied, and i translate it as i can. Place is http://www.metsastysmuseo.fi/kokoelmat/kokoelmaloydot/kokoelmaloydot_2013/7_2013_loyto_wirkkala.php

/start
Tapio Wirkkala originally designed one of most collected Finnish puukko designs for Hackman Oy. Hackman made two versions (18 cm and 22 cm) through years 1961-1979. Larger model was also made by Fiskars Oy at some point.

Alltough puukko has made repurtation of classic, has puukko enthusiast/users criticed Wirkkala puukko to be unpractional. Square nylon handle is slippery and does not fit good on hand. Stainless steel blade is rather fragile, wich leads breaking of tip.

Wirkkala did some changes on puukko, and Lapin Puukko Ky made three different versions through years 1978-1979. Despite improver using features, these puukkos were not that popular.
/end

But there are many that love design and use of it. Here is link, and one picture of dedicated timber that lover his puukko...

Thank you Crow!!! Awesome link!!!

I have heard these points as well and they never proved a problem in my experience. I used my old one a lot from '83 to '06. For camping, fishing and informal whittling, it excelled and it fits my hand perfect. If you google it, it is liked, roughly 10 to one* vs it's detractors (in English speaking threads). If a person is a hard core user that batons or puts great demands on the point like digging or snapping it out of a stump, this isn't the knife for you anyway. It is what it is and won't fit or please everyone. There are stronger, tougher traditional Puukkos out there for sure but this one looks great and fits my needs as a field knife well. If a person needs a stronger version of this design, find a Cold Sisu (I probably will too).

* I base this on threads when people love/like/own it versus the one or two that show up in the thread that dislike it. I think many traditional (carbon steel) puukko users will find it lacking but this was designed as a modern take on the classic not as an improvement on one.
