Where to find this kind of coin pouch?
on: April 14, 2015, 12:53:24 AM
I got this leather zippered coin pouch in Switzerland or Germany in the 1980's.  They seemed to be very common back then.  It is kind of an expandable egg shaped leather pouch with a zipper.  I've tried scouring through photos on the internet and I don't see anything like it.  Are these still available somewhere?

One search and now I'm getting banner ads for Roots.com. Amazing how that works.

I find that etsy.com can be very useful for items like this  :)

I've not spent time searching on etsy.com.  My experience seems to be that Etsy.com is more of high priced custom made items.  My old coin pouch was cheap, mass produced and good quality.

Cheap good quality mass produced items are hard to find these days. Everything comes with a price these days.

We are swamped with cheap stuff from China these days, however some of it is surprisingly good.  Coin pouches and purses are not as commonly used in the US as other countries.  So we don't have a huge selection of them.

Drifting off topic, but interesting ... I just learned recently that the British pound (£) coin that they started using in ~1983 replaced the paper pound note.  So they don't use paper £1 notes anymore and only coins.  In the US it is extremely uncommon to use coins larger than $0.25 USD (a quarter).  We have half dollar coins and 1 dollar coins, but they are rarely ever used.  So our largest common coin (the quarter) is equivalent to 0.25 Euros presently.  The British pound coin is about $1.50 USD.

Thanks for the earlier suggestions.  One of the ebay dealers you suggested has them very reasonable.  I will probably buy a couple from them.  I wasn't planning to use them with coins, but other items of EDC.  My old one is still useful, but got somewhat corroded inside from keeping copper based coins in it too long (almost 3 decades!).

Like I said, I don't spend much time on Esty as those items are sometimes an order of magnitude higher than I'm wanting to pay for daily use items.
