84mm modding questions.
on: April 21, 2015, 07:52:50 AM
What tools and blades will fit in the 84mm frame? I would love to know them all, but if that is asking to much here are some specific questions.

What saw (Wenger or Vic) fits in the 84mm Victorinox?

What Wenger parts fit in the 84mm?

Is their any way to get a electrician and/or pruner blade from a 93mm to fit?

Is a 93mm awl compatible?

Sorry for all the questions guys.

No problem with questions.

There is a 84mm vic saw. A My First Victorinox plus is the easiest place to find one.
The 85mm Wenger saw will also fit fairly easily. Check my tutorial thread in the modding guides sticky. That also shows how to fit the Wenger scissors into a 84mm Vic.

AFAIK the Electrician blade fits but it needs the pivot hole filed and redrilled to make a nice job of it.
Looks to me that the hooked top on the pruner blade would be to deep. but that's a guess. I haven't looked at it.

Not sure about the awl but i think i saw where someone had done it. No idea how easy or hard it is.

No doubt some of the other hackers will be able to give more answers.

Should yes. Some 84s have a electrician blade. I can make it fit.

There have been a few 84mm Electrician's knives showing up on Fleabay in as many weeks.  Not in new or unused condition however.

Now I really want to do this mod.  At least a blade swap with the Electrician's blade.  I'm going to wait until I have a little more practice with the peening, however.  I would want to mess up the Alox scales.

The other way to get rid of the play on a 3mm hole to a 2.2mm pin, is to buy the brass rod that is 3mm OD and 2.2mm ID and cut off a little piece and use it as a bearing. It works rather well. On a second thought that might be to a 2.5mm hole?

In case someone is still following this thread, the Electrician's blade I removed from my 84mm Electrician Cellidor has a 3mm hole.  It looks like they used the Electrician's blade directly from the 93mm.  No modification was done to use with the 2.2mm pin.  I also compared it to the 93mm Pruner blade and it looks like it will probably fit in the 84mm.  The length of the tip might come in contact with the liner, but the liner can probably be modified.

I would like to try using the 93mm awl in the 84mm.  Sometime I may get a Pioneer Harvester or Rancher and tear it down for these parts.

Quick question: what are the diameters of the brass rods on the 84mm?

Thanks!
