ST300 & SwissTool
on: April 26, 2015, 09:48:48 PM
My brother is a maintenance person of a large apartment complex.
Ever since I bought him a ST300 fourteen months ago, he EDC that every single day.
He hard uses all the tools of it on daily basis and absolutely loves the Super Tool 300.
To make things more interesting, I bought a SwissTool for him to try out.
Both MT have almost exact same tool load-out, I am eager to find out how he compares the two.

The Swisstool has been used but not cared for, been to hell and back.
I cleaned it up, sharpen it, and applied red paint on the handle.
I think he will dig how cool it looks, at least that.

For the record, I offered him Wave, Rebar & Surge in the pass, he refused to give up his ST300 for any of them even for a day.

This will be a great hands on comparison

For me the Swisstool is the winner over the st300.
Much higher quality, slightly smaller that the st300, The swisstool has scissors.

I personally cant find a reason to choose to st300 over the swisstool.

But we will see what the outcome is.

At least one month before he will comment on them.

I forgot the state his preference:
He does not use scissors, does not use knife often, and he can not open any folders one handed.  So OHO is out of the question.

The plier head.  I find the pliers and cutters on the ST300 to be MUCH more capable than the SwissTool.  Yes, the SwissTool has it beat in most other areas, but the ST300 wins big time in the plier head department.  At least IMHO it does. ;)

I also don't mind beating on my ST300 as much as it's not a pretty!! :D

I sold my Swisstool because it was hard to open the tools.

I have 2 that have the same issues.  I wont send them to Vic because unlike LM they take their sweet time.

I like my Swisstool way more than the Spirit and as much as I like my ST300.  If you don't need or cannot have OHO tools then both hit the mark hard.

Having longer flanges on the philips the ST300 gets the nod from me.

Main blade on ST300 has a bit more utility being pointier bit more cutting edge.  I dont like the way its oriented on the tool however.  Vic did a better job with the cutting edge positioned along the frame.

ST300 awl better IMO

154CM cutters no contest.

I prefer the locks on the Swisstool.  They are more natural to release I can close each tool one handed.

Swisstool has a flipping chisel.  I love this tool so much.  Come on LM do a chisel  :pok: I dare ya.

Swisstool has an amazing crate opener thing.  This tool is a beast and is so handy to have.

I have zero issues with beating the Swisstool within inches of its life. I have hammered with it, pryed things that would have busted most other tools, and over all used it like I stole it.

I like them both and for different reasons.

Well said Aloha.  I enjoy my Swisstool, but unfortunately, I've found it to be too heavy for carry in most outfits I wear.  Same with my ST200 as well.

Both are very good tools for those folks that have the hand span to get full benefit from them. The Swisstool CS Plus wins for me on chisel/scrapers, scissors, awl, and the bit wrench. Putting aside the CS+ or X model, the choice is a more even one, though the Swisstool still benefits from the external blades and saw, which would likely swing it for me. My modest hand size means that neither would make regular daily carry though

I like the Swisstool very much for the reasons I mentioned earlier in this thread.  I have always liked the bluntish plier head as well.  The ST300 was a nice surprise to me when I first got it.  I agree with 50ft tho on the handle splay, if you have small to med sized hands then these very well may not be the tools for you.

I think sometimes we all get a bit "familiar" and "settled" with our tools. In order to be swayed requires a clearly "superior" tool.  Small advantages don't outweigh the familiar nor do "special" implements one tool might have ( chisel for example ).

These are my thoughts YMMV.

I'm terrible with this kind of thinking. Even if it is a lesser MT, use it enough and I'll bond with it. Time can do funny things.

I've noticed just thru videos, here, and other sources that while folks have several options of ( fill in the blank ) those same folks tend to keep with a "known" item.  Switching from my SS Wave to a Polished Wave then to my BO Wave was a "process" .
