Pick 3, any 3...only 3....
on: April 29, 2015, 02:40:01 AM
With a growing multitool collection (courtesy of this forum  ) I was wondering if I had to get rid of them all except three of them which ones would I chose  So at this moment, (always subject to change) I think if I were stuck with 3 multi's I would chose the Rebar II, Vic Explorer, and Gerber Dime. The only one I don't have yet...YET  :D is an explorer, but I had a super tinker so I know it is a winner. With this set up, I think I would be prepared to tackle almost any situation.

If you had to chose, what would it be? You can chose from a full size, pocket, and keychain combo. One from each heavy hitter, all full size, all leatherman or vic, it doesn't matter. Just pick three.

p.s.
I bought the dime because I wanted a small plier option and it came down to the squirt ps4 and the dime. They looked as though they would match up the same...honestly the dime just looks way better. The squirt looked very sterile. Very happy with it.

Rebar, ST300, SAK OHT.

Of course my choices could change a bit if I expand my collection to as big as some of you guys have  :D

What you said: a full size (usually plier based), a pocket size (probably a SAK) and a keychain multitool.
That's kinda perfect.
Going on from there is very personal.

In my case that would be:

Rebar (Charge TTi if I had the spare money)
Cybertool 34
Midnite Manager

The 4th would be a Raptor, modding the CT34 into no scissors.
Nothing fancy to write here...

This is easy as I will have three in the near future: Vic Hercules, Leatherman Crater C33T and a TL-29..
I knew my wife was a keeper when she transitioned from calling it a knife thingy to a multi-tool.

Interesting, so far no-one took the Wave yet. Always thought it would be the most popular kid on the block.

For me, it's got to be the three I'd struggle to replace.

BNiB LM Genus (signed on blade by Tim Leatherman)
BNiB Wenger Giant
NiB Victorinox XXLT

Gerber MP 600 - Most versatile tool for my needs
Victorinox Spartan - Iconic and good either on the Campground or the vest pocket of suit
Kneissler Bauernmesser - Because Sometimes a pocket knife is all you need and I got my first one when I was 13 or so from the maker himself and my father replaced that lost one with one he gifted to me when he was in the black forest on a vacation last year.

That's a very nice set up  :tu: Bluntnose or needle nose 600?

If I only had 3 I would chose 3 to cover different occasions. Carry a heavy duty multi in dress pants aren't exactly ideal.

For users,
Wave BO, Surge BO, Swisschamp

For other reasons I'd keep a few more than 3.  I have been given a few tools that have some sentimental value so those aren't going anywhere nor being used.

Super Tinker (EDC)
Wave (Hah! See? Someone WOULD keep it! :D)
And... Hmm...

Nope. I'm good with just 2.

Okay, well, I'll say Rebar for backup.

Only three ...

 :ahhh

Now, after the initial shock I will try to make a selection, which won't be easy.

First choice would be whether to keep three different style users, or to keep one user and two tools with sentimental value.

I would need a SAK, and which SAK offers more tools than the Swisschamp, so that's number one.  I would also need a plier based tool, so that would be the ST300 (one of my favorite combinations these days, my Swisschamp next to my ST300).  But I would also like to keep one of my Swisstools, and also my first Leatherman (Original Supertool '94).  This is the hard part ...  ::).

So, my three users would be my Swisschamp, my BO ST300, and my Swisstool X.
The other (sentimental) option would be my Swisschamp, my Swisstool X and my first multitool, my '94 Supertool (Yes, you heard it right Monrogue, I would part from my Road Tour Spirit ... :dwts:).

Victorinox Spirit with serrated blade and scissors - does pretty much everything I want a multi tool to do and looks great doing it.
Victorinox Mechanic - my two favourite victorinox tools (pen blade and mini pliers) on one easy to pocket knife. Stick some plus scales on it for good luck.
Victorinox alox Minichamp - easier to get hold of than the alox Rambler but still a great mini toolset for your key chain. Wears nicely in your pocket too.
