Zebralight SC5w AA.
on: May 06, 2015, 11:02:34 PM
I was just looking at the Zebralight website for the first time in a while and noticed a new model. Just what I have been wanting. A very high output single AA! 500Lm. Woot, woot! Just wondering if anyone has thoughts on this light. As long as their is no initial problems when these get out into the wild I will hopefully pick one up down the road.

It says pre-order shipping starts April, 30. Obviously that was a week ago so they might have shipped a week ago or will ship in the next week or so.

Nice... love it! Although I'm still hoping that they will bring back the AA/CR123 combo flashlight... please, bring it back...
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

Operating Voltage Range: 0.7V - 2.0V

interestingly that means it can't run on 14500s. They've made the H/SC52 do 500lm (albeit briefly) by using the higher output of the 14500.

Compared to the SC52, the outputs are almost identical, runtimes are almost identical, it's ever so slightly longer and wider and the hotspot is reduced from 12 to 10 degrees.

I don't really see what the point is?

Edit: if you compare like for like rather than cool against warm as I was accidentally doing, you get a slight improvement. high goes from 300 to 325lm, a lower mode goes from 3 to 3.5 hours. Not much but nice to have. Not worth upgrading for I don't think.

I do not use 14500's so a AA light putting out 500lm is what I am looking for.

I think that the thing, a 1xAA light that can throw out a bunch of lumen without having to buy speSmurfpillst cells and charger. :)

500 lm!!!

I carry a H52 and I am surprised of this  :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

But look out, It must be only in TURBO mode:

Quote
3 main brightness levels*:
High - 535 lumens, 0.8 hour runtime (brightness drops to 304 lumens after 3 minutes)
     Medium - 45 lumens, 8.5 hour runtime
     Low - 3 lumens, 96 hour runtime

You can't expect a small light like this to be able to dissipate enough heat to run that bright for very long, hence the auto drop down after 3 minutes.

Still crazy bright though  :tu:  I might have to think about getting one myself  :)
