My saws
on: May 07, 2015, 11:33:43 PM
After much soul searching, this covers any event  :

Stick within the limits of the Opinel, and accept the workout that comes with the chainsaw.

I built it myself, replacement blade with the smallest teeth I could find, 2 D-loops bent a bit more D and soldered, and some leftover straps.
It's a workout, but wickedly effective.

Nice one mate. I have the same opinel and it does work well. I keep coming back to the Bahco Laplander though, it's amazing what they can cope with

Never SAW that coming, but suddenly I have the urge to end my streak of being Opinel-free...

Nice collection :salute:
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

have you ever tried stringing a bowsaw from that hand chainsaw in a similar fashion to the wire saws?
Solving problems you didn't know you had in the most obscure way possible

Hi Everybody

To be honest, based on nothing but (too many to count) online recommendations, I would've bought a Laplander if any were to be found locally.
All the rest, Gerber, Kershaw, UST, even the bigger Opinel just seem doomed to fail at some point.
Also, in this country my requirements are different.
If I use the Opinel within limits it covers anything I need to do with it.  I've used it in the yard on some sort of Gum Tree with softer wood than the standard here, and I was impressed at the thick branches I cut with ease.

The chainsaw got a real life test on my cousin's farm with an Acacia that was blown over onto the track in a storm.
I made 2 cuts through 20-25cm trunks in no time, sweating like a pig afterwards, but I'm fat so that's to be expected!

I like the way you think, I've even worked out how I want to do it......just not gotten around to it yet.  8)

The beauty of that hand chainsaw is that it has an 180 degree cutting surface...that's why it's so fast.

Mine are like these:

I bought my Laplander online and it came from Germany - that's the opposite side of the world to me - and for less than the other Bahco folding saws at my local garden stores.
