Demel's Compact (By TattooSteve99)
on: May 12, 2015, 02:06:42 AM
Got this today in the mail. A perfectly balanced SAK. It has all the tools I need and none I don't. Perfect for edc. Thanks Steve. Corkscrew and hook replaced with awl and phillips driver.

Nice piece, but I'm not sure it's still a Compact. But calling Climber Slim sounds... tacky. :)

I would wager if vic produced this it would be one of their best sellers, particularly in the urban/city market.

This is really close to what I'm looking for. If only the can opener would fit in place of that combo tool.

That's what the rebar is for  :D

Why the can opener?

Super Tinker Slim sounds good...or if you wanted to 'compact' it down a bit more: Stinker.

Nice mod!

Or just "Everyday" or "Everyday Carry".

Particularly if Vic finally does the thing I want almost as much as new 84mm scissors, and that is make a glasses screwdriver (needed pretty much every day) that can go in where the pen (needed... almost never) fits in Plus scales.

If you need the eyeglasses screwdriver for actually using on eyeglasses (which I occasionally do), you can actually just use one arm of the tweezers. For higher torque needs... they're not so good.

The leatherman eyeglass bit almost fits, I'm working on it. The issue is finding somewhere to put it in use, kinda needs another 1/2 length slot. Might see if Syph fancies milling into his Ti scales.

What? No hook?!  :pok:
The hook is a very Macgyver tool, why else is there a badge for it?

All seriousness, its a very nice mod, steve did very well.
Not for me though.  ;)
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

I went back and forth about the hook. But that's  why custom saks are great. You can get it how you need. Its closer to a tinker w/scissors except maintaining two layers.

A yeoman with a awl and plus scales would be a win. Essentially  a three layer explorer.

Added some translucent ruby scales yesterday to give it a more "custom" look

Was thinking of adding a pliers layer. Would that be easy or difficult to do?

Perfect edc. I didn't know the awl could replace the hook.
Only thing it misses is prybar capacities... I think a can opener instead of the combo tool would be nice... everything can list caps...

Thanks. It is a very slim and comfortable sak. I'm just wondering if I should add the pliers or not. I'm not sure if the can opener would fit or not, I originally wanted the bottle opener to go there but it wouldn't fit.  tattoosteve99 would have the exact reason.

Awesome! Would be my personal perfect combination of tools in two layers for urban EDC.

Is this a LEGO-style, drop-in-interchangeable-parts-and-profit mod or do the tools and/or backsprings need individual adjustments, reshaping, or reboring?

The awl requires a little work. Other than that it's straight forward

Sounds good!

What is the donor SAK, in addition to the Compact?
