What tool do you...
on: May 13, 2015, 06:24:57 PM
OK, I had to leave title like that or it might not been kool.

What I want to know is,....

What tool do you play with, fidget, fondle, dongle whilst reading or in spare time, and as a possible entanglement, did you wear said tool out from just playing with it too much?

Now you can see why I couldn't ask full question without background in title and it still can be misconstrued beyond hope.
Though I hope for some conversation over which tool feels good in hand just to pass time with and if you wore out doing that.

So have your word play, then tell me and show pictures of said toy tool to assure others of enjoyment to fondle.

This could derail or be enlightening.

I've heard eastern theory that fidgeting increases blood flow allowing for a higher richer oxygenated blood supply. In essence fidgeting can increase blood flow to our cerebral stores allowing for greater depth of thought and concentration. Food for thought on matter.

Myself, I can't put down some things, in this case of MTs, it's the LT Squirt, new style. My fingers love matching handle meeting on same plane when closed, the same for contours of said handles. The weight for size ratio gives an assuring feel of continuity of existence. The satisfying snap of the spring joints releasing their pent up energy to open or close positions.

Deep an out there, yeah, but let's see what you have to say on it maybe?

Idle hands are the Devils Multitools.
If you are curious of this, try a pen and paper crossword whilst fiddling with something in opposing dominant hand.
Then try another without.

OK, maybe too zen for you, but what do you play with, pencil, knife, MT I'm hoping or I'm going to get a mod on me for o/t in general. So help me out here.

For me it's pretty much any sliding head Gerber.  Flick.  Slide close.  Flick.  Slide close.  Repeat until my wife starts giving me dirty looks.

Yes, thank you friend.
That is what I'm after.

Curious, any wear on tool?
Condolences to wife, this reason my man cave is garage.
Edit to add, sharpening machetes introduced me to new funding for outside man cave. Not always bad is my take on it.

And I do find myself playing with my Swisstool a lot, opening the pliers, closing the pliers, opening the pliers ...  the sound is quite addictive,  for some reason it reminds me of the sound and feel of reloading a bolt action rifle ...  ::)

Any tool with good, positive 'snik' of tools into open or closed position. The scissor head on the Micra or pliers on Squirt, the flathead/caplifter on 91mm SAKs, whatever is at hand.

I've never worn a tool out from this, as i just grab whatever tool is lying on my coffee table, and that tends to rotate.

My current options are a Leatherman Squirt PS4, Victorinox Rambler, and Coghlan's Army Knife.

I play with my Skeletool a ton while I'm trying to finish some blades now.

But honestly flicking my ZT566BW is my best "fidget" tool/knife

I'm in on this as well lately thanks to the Gerber month we have going   Those flicky pliers are one of the best fiddle factors of all the MTs I own.  OHO blades are fun too.  They're all fun in their own way really, at least for me.

I would agree about the Swisstool as well.  I love the feel and sound when opening and closing the handles :tu:

I like to handle knives. Have done for many years.

Second would be the Gerber MP600 or Leatherman OHT. Tends to annoy her though.

The quiet option is an ALOX SAK or MTO poker chip. Both feel very good in the hand.

Two poker chips are double the fun.

Non tool items would be puzzles, kendama or rubiks cube etc.

I practice OHO-ing all the tools on my Spirit, or play with my Enzo PK70.  The PK70 makes a very satisfying snick and clunk as it opens and closes, but it's so sharp I mustn't play with it if I've had a beer.

I've been developing a habit since I got a Cadet.  Not sure if I can carry without a nail cleaner now.

Will trade items for new/used Cadet Alox knives for mod projects.

Just looking at that picture makes me want to reach for my style PS an start scraping away too.

Yes, habit forming but has a bright side, clean presentable hands for public consumption, win-win still.

Thanks Zoid, I'll look that thread over too.

I open and close the cap lifter and the philips on my Monwoody (90 degree stop), look at stuff (mainly my watch) through the mag glass, and open and close the Spirit.

I am lucky enough to have an understanding wife...........

Understandable, I wore out a couple zippo in my day.
Snap open over an over in hand till it was natural.
Two fingers on top lid, thumb on bottom, snap it's open and sitting proudly in your hand.

Opening all the tools on my Swisstool.
I do not fiddle around that much.

My leatherman wave blade lock was worn and the pivot point after opening it thousands of times.

PM me if you want one of my kidneys for your SOG TiNi multitool.

OK, both my kidneys.
