Old Camillus Stockman
on: May 14, 2015, 02:46:34 AM
Here is one I like to carry once in a while.  this knife really got me into appreciating old multi blade impliments when i got it at a moving sale in 2001.

The clip and sheepfoot blade are pretty gunked up at the joint.  I think I will spray it out with wd-40

The stockman is an awesome pattern. My favorite knife is the Buck 303, a medium stockman whose spey blade more resembles a pen blade. Fairly small,  and oh so rugged.

Short of a SAK, a stockman is one of the best pocket knives to carry. You get in one pocket size package a choice of three different blades to choose from. I like to sharpen all three blades a bit different. I keep the clip main blade very sharp for slicing, the sheep foot blade sharpened at a steeper angle for rougher cutting like opening cardboard boxes and plastic blister packages, and I keep the spey blade semi dull for wire stripping and scraping jobs and dirty work that may mess up any edge on the other blades.

For 25 years before I became a semi knife nut, my Buck 301 stockman was my only edc pocket knife. I was in tyne army engineers with it, used it as a work knife, a trout and bird knife for fishing and small game hunting, and general camping duty. If I was only going to have one pocket knife, I want a SAK. But if I was going to have only two pocket knives, the second would be a stockman. And Camillus made a great one!

My Northwoods is a go-to pocket knife for me.

since I got mine it has developed slight wobble in the main blade.  Maybe I used it a bit hard.

Will it tighten if I tap the pommell with a hammer?

Stockman is a long-time favorite. Used to carry one regularly before I get into SAKs, and still pack one on occasion.

Yes. I use some thin leather over the bolster to protect it. The proper way is to peen the the pivot pin but I've never done that....there is a good youtube on the subject but a tap on the bolster will snug it back up....for a while

Though this youtube is of a GEC Stockman. There is a bit of a history behind the stockman which how it became the knife of the blue collar working man

Some awesome stockman pics posted guys.

Nice collection SAK Guy! How do you like those Frontier labeled knives. Were they just a name and some other company actually made them?

I've seen them from time to time but never really looked into them. They seem to go for good prices.

Good stuff! Joe

Great quality! The Powder Horn Series was made by Camillus under the Imperial Schrade mantle. They sharpen up like Old Timers...excellent steel!

Stockman was the  pattern I associated with a pocket knife while I was growing up. This Schrade 899 replaces the spey blade with an awl, and super slim.
