Hello From Hawaii
on: May 15, 2015, 02:46:47 AM
Greetings everyone!

I've been a longtime lurker, and I've finally decided to become a member of this great community.
I was bitten by the knife and multitool bug awhile ago.  I currently have a modest collection of SAK's, Leatherman's, and small EDC folding knives.
Looking forward to growing as a member and hopefully being able to contribute to this awesome group.

Welcome,

I'm curious what's the carry laws on the islands?  How do your tool fare in the weather there?

Aloha007, I needed to quickly review the statutes.  I didn't want to be spreading inaccurate info here on the forum.
You cannot own balisongs and switchblades/automatic knives.  You cannot conceal carry dirks or daggers (and also pistols or metal knuckles or other deadly/dangerous weapons).  Blade length restriction is not mentioned in the statutes.  You can open carry any knife, and you can conceal carry any knife as long as it is not a dirk or dagger.  Confused yet?

So far, my pocket knives and multitools have been holding up pretty well.  I do take good care of them, though.  I clean and oil them regularly.  However, it can get rainy and quite humid here, and my poor "outdoor" tools such as my machetes, saws, lawn mower blades, and gardening tools have suffered.  I am guilty of not treating them as nice as my pocket tools.

I really like it here.  I've come across some great guys, they gave me a warm welcome, pointed me in the right direction when I needed help, and I was able to find a nice replacement for a multi-tool that I lost a while back.
I hope to be able to pay it forward and contribute to this community.
