Leatherman Surge Ratchet Wrench and External Bit Driver mod

I do Performance Testing on HVAC equipment and use my Surge every day. I've still got a few modifications I would like to do, but I can't bring myself to sacrifice my new Surge I just purchased. I wanted to put another bit driver inside so there would be two not sure where I am going to come up with one. One thing I do need to do is add a set screw to the bit driver. I also need to come up with a way to cover the new additions, that or come up with a way to lock them closed a little better. I'm also toying with the idea of adding removable wire strippers/ cutters in place of the removable cutters.

And more pics would be sweet

Do you remember what ratchet you used?

Welcome. Sweet mod there.
Beware that someone will come shortly to convince you that the swisstool is better than surge.
Be prepared.

Interesting mod. Welcome aboard.

I have seen a similar ratchet mod on here, and did wonder how strong the bit drivers were acting in that direction, rather than torsionally. I personally like the seperate mini ratchets, as you can grip a nut with the pliers, and the ratchet on the bolt/machine screw. I've never tried the Victorinox or Bahco ones, but I have a Topeak one I'm quite happy with.

I thought I'd mention this as it might be a viable option to your extra driver requirement

Thanks for the warm welcome! :salute: I appreciate the word of warning, but I've carried Surge to work for over 10 years now. Leatherman has a very good warranty as far as I'm concerned. I am pretty rough on them, but they have replaced 3 that I can think of. I received an updated Surge on the last return due to them retiring the original model. I have been carrying a ratchet wrench and the bit driver separate for a couple years now and just decided to see how I like having them attached. I have been known to misplace things if you catch my drift. The ratchet is nothing special. I got it from Northern Tool The brand name is Precision Tool. It has a black handle with red trim. I mainly just use it for 5/16" and 1/4" screws. Here are a few more pics.

Welcome to the forum mate.

I would love it if you could get some bigger and clearer pics up, I'm finding it hard to see the details.

I tried to post some larger pictures. After carrying the tool a few days, it is pretty apparent that A- I need a set screw for the bit driver extension and B- it would be more comfortable to hold with an enclosure for each of the new additions to slide into. I just don't think it will look as cool!
