Epic Rebar mod attempt Plan A
on: May 23, 2015, 05:06:54 PM
What I want to put on the Rebar?
Small Bit Driver, Large Bit driver, Scissors (parts I have appears to be from a charge)

What I don't need in order?
1. Main Blade, 2. Medium flat/phillips, 3. Sheepsfoot blade, 4. Awl.

Can it be done without major modding?
Eventually even McGyver got himself a Leatherman

With those parts it's just like playing with Lego, no actual modifying needed.

^^^ exactly what zoid said. ;)

luckily the Rebar even has a couple spacers that you can add/remove as needed to suit your purposes. :D

Loosing the war on knurled knobs.

It's just not working out. Maybe its partly my impatience. But I used both a very old, very cheap, socket and  a very new, very cheap socket and both ended up damaging the bolt after using both a hammer and a hobby vice.
Am considering purchasing some engineers pliers but I have nearly destroyed knobs already and wondering if I should buy suitable replacements?
This appears allot harder than the ones at the plier head that were a snap. The raised area protecting the knobs make it difficult.
Any thoughts?

The tool end screws of the Rebar are a pain to get a grip on. I ended up making my own engineer type pliers to mod my Rebar. Also the screw on the blade side is keyed so it wont turn, you only have to unscrew the opposite side.

Okay, I've been drinking so take that into account when considering anything I say.
Have you tried annealing the sockets to soften them?
Or maybe use a hacksaw / dremel and cut in a flathead slot across the top of the screws.
Don't forget to heat the screws to break the loctite and remember what Steve said re which side you undo.
If you stuff the screws don't stress, I may have some Rebar or Charge ones we can replace them with.
Remember to relax and take your time.
See how you go mate.

Maybe for the posts but turned down Wingman screws look great and make for easy future modding.

I swapped things around a little again to make the plier head sit nicer when folded up but I am going to stick with the loadout I have now. I think I am going to try EDCing it with a Spyderco Salt.

I would love to claim the idea but it wasn't mine. Not sure where I first saw it. I'm happy it worked though.

Can I ask, what is the torx screw (swapped from original rebar "screw") and the the clip exactly?

And I'd assume with whatever it was swapped with they both work in the other?

I was wondering what my next ultimate mod extravaganza would be.  :salute:
How does the clip sit on the rebar's handles? Does it just go on with no fuss?

Had a look at my Sideclip. Isn't it the exact same clip?

Going through it now. I noticed the tooth that keeps the clip still, and indeed you ground a gap for it. What about the Handle shape though? The Rebar handle is not flush flat like the Sideclip. How does the clip fit the Rebar's curvy handle? Any play? Or did you grind it flat?
