Making some bannock

Who likes bannock? This one is plain, but I really like mine with some sugar and cinnamon. What's your favorite recipe?

Wow. Just yesterday i learned about bannock, and looked up some recipes. I will have to try it someday. What recipe do you use?

It is kind of an "grandma" recipe if you know what I mean, put in what feels right. I use about a tablespoon of baking soda for a cup of flour. Water to consistency and cook for the basic bread. Oh yeah, a bit of salt too...

I'm not a big fan of Bannock...I'm more likely to use a biscuit, muffin or cake mix. The way I like best is to fry the Bannock...easy and quicker than trying to bake.

My favorite scratch recipe is Garlic Flatbread - http://americanfood.about.com/od/pizzaandbreads/r/Homemade-Garlic-Flatbread.htm

A bit more work to prepare...but cooking is as easy as making Pancakes. Works as a base for camp pizza and goes well with curry, pasta, chili etc. I've subbed olive oil for the shortening with good results. It's good with Hummus too.

That bottom pics looks like smack ass(fried bread dough). Not sure what all bannock has in it, but I have made a pancake like substance that just uses water, salt and flour. Then just fry it in a pan. Good with corn syrup.

I fry it as well when I am at home. Easier to have the oil on me. Makes for better bread though.

I like to wrap it around a stick and roast it over hot coals like you would roast hot dogs over a fire takes about ten minutes to cook.
I think Alcohol, Tabacco and Firearms should be a convenience store, not a government agency.

In Aus we call it damper. Haven't made any for a while. The stick method was how we were shown in scouts. Poke a bit of butter in the hole and a bit of honey drizzled in. Making me feel hungry!

I am backcountry camping on the weekend and we are going to have bannock served with Maple Syrup!
Yum!
Sometimes we wrap it around hot dogs and cook it in the fire too.
