I was looking for something else when I came across this.  Apparently we have been credited as helping for the research in this book.  I think I might have to spend $3.85 to find out if we gave good advice or not!

Well, of course it is good advice the more urgent question is, what did we advice on? My bet: HOW TO FORM A CULT, because we know, every good post-apocalyptic world needs a crazy cult :salute: All hail his Flickyness

Wouldn't it be excellent if the pearl of wisdom was right at the front of the book, and the first response to the world's end was....

Interesting- on page 67 they address multitools and SAKs and basically refer to SAKs as play toys that are "no match for the modern multitool."

Then they say that multitools are typically two halves with various functions and some include Allen wrenches but those are no good to you because they can't be used to filet a fish.

Seems a bit short sighted to me.

In other words: they've not really listened to us at all. :D. After-all we all know that Allan headed bolts will all be selectively destroyed in the post-apocalyptic world and that nothing remotely useful was ever bolted together with them anyway.

Here is how referencing/acknowledgment works, for you young people:

1 Write what you like and then just put the names of some relevant sounding sources as references, making it appear that you actually researched the topic and they all agree with you

2 Find a book/website on the topic you want. Then just copy all their references, without checking what exactly is being referenced, so that it appears that you have done research. Do this for a few sites and you will have a large number of references making you look good, with no idea on what was being referenced.

3 copy quotes you like without checking what was before or after.

Unless there are specific page references and quotes they could be referring to aything mentioned, even in a silly talk in the break room.

Write to them and ask them to specify what they actually took from the site, if they know.

That is the general practise in academia and books. Unless you believe that an author will actually read 100 books he referenses from start to end and also check all the references in them.

You can even do a googlebooks search, see the abstract/summary/ conclusion and use that part as a reference, making people think you actually read the whole book/paper...

Yeah, that was my understanding of getting credit too.  I suppose in the end all publicity is good as long as they spell your name right.
