First SOG: won a Paratool with blackie collins sheath

Hey everyone,

I haven't posted here in a while but got the multi-tool bug back.  Despite my username, my edc for the last two years (at least) has been the skeletool clipped to my front jeans pocket.  It's very practical and continues to serve me well...

I've been looking for a replacement that might be a little more comfortable to use.  The paratool design fascinates me and I like the BC sheath, so I made an offer on an ebay and it was accepted!

I've seen some real nice photos of the paratool/BC here and I thank the people who have posted them.

Could someone post a pic of the paratool/BC 'in use' on the belt?  I want to see how big or small the profile is.

It should be here in a couple days.  If I like it I might go paratool and thin OHO blade combo instead of skeletool.

thanks

I don't have a Blackie Collins sheath, but I will tell you the Paratool is a rather compact tool. So much I just carry it in my pocket. So I can imagine its profile should be small.
And congrats and welcome back!

thanks nate :tu:

I front carry my wallet so I like a clip or I read some people pocket carry with it floating on a lanyard.  I'll try that as well.

here's a pic of the unit I'm getting:

That's a looker! Heads up, you can buy the wood saw from SOG website and drop in by the plain edge knife. Don't have to take any tools out.

thanks for that head's up.

does anyone know if the c-4 spike will fit in paratool?  I realize I might have to remove some tools.

here's the link: http://www.sogknives.com/type/accessories/c-4-spike.html

thanks

thanks.

mine should be here tomorrow. always something I could tinker with.

I did a little SAK modding and it will a treat to be able to work on the SOG so easy.

I might have to get one of these paratools. Are they made in the US ?

The mail man brought it a few hours ago.  I put it right to work with me up a ladder two stories to clean out gutters.  Comfortable and a nice selection of tools.

I will be honest the skeletool being a little easier to open and the carabiner to clip to things are handy up on a ladder.

The case is really nice too, very low profile.

I'll post pics of the skeletool and paratool later on.

Yes Steve, the paratools at least the early ones are made in the USA

Good deal! Now you need a Switch Plier.

trying not to go full bore on getting more multi-tools but your pics of the switch pliers sure make it tempting....

edit and I'm not so sure how much easier the skeletool is to open the pliers vs the paratool.  I'll have to play around...

Like both. But I will say the Paratool has way more punch and tools for being damn near the same size as the Skeletool. And the Skeletool surprised me what it can handle.
I think the Paratool is highly underrated tool.

The ones for sale on amazon currently say SOG dot and USA on it too

I was in walmart the other day and on an impulse bought the leatherman wingman...before reading reviews and looking at it closer.  I returned it when I won the auction on the paratool for a few dollars more with free shipping.  I'm happy with my purchase.

Not sure if anyone's ever mentioned it but you can stuff a SAK tweezers and toothpick behind the tools of the paratool and everything still closes up fine.

The early Paratools used a hex headed bolt to attach the landyard attachment. Later ones were riveted. A couple other ways to tell early SOG's is the matte finish, knife blade, Edmound, Wa. stamp.
What? Enablers! Are you serrrrious? Where? I dont see any.

Then there are the one that used left over stuff or a hybrid rather of new and new old stock. You will see something like a riveted lanyard, hex bolts and old school blades.

This post got me to hit up ebay and get an old paratool with a blackie collins sheath too. I don't like the tool itself quite as much as I do my leatherman rebar, but the sheath just brings the overall package over the top.
