Gerhard my knifey friend
HiI got a Puma AlpineGuide and SilverLion for a combined price of N$1000 monopoly money ( US$80) yesterday. They are in the Puma IP line, made in Spain, and I have to say the fit and finish is not the best considering the normal price. Both in 440C and with Olive handles.I was a bit doubtful about the SilverLion, but after a clean-up and closer inspection I realized it's actually my favourite of the two.The blade is leaf-shaped and FFG, I reckon it needs just one hole and you could be excused for thinking it's a Spyderco! The AlpineGuide has a small crack in the one scale, and there's a gap between the brass bolster and the scales, as well as one brass pin sticking out quite a bit.Sheaths are nice enough leather efforts, the AG fits much better than the SL.The knives were on special, and I also managed to reserve a White Hunter till payday for about half the sticker price. Not the (German) Pumas I bought as a kid as far as quality is concerned, and even the lesser Puma IP line seems to be more expensive than I'm willing to pay for the quality.I feel the 2 little ones aren't bad at that price, and they are pretty if you don't look too closely. The White Hunter.....yes well, if Puma is part of your consciousness I guess you'll want a White Hunter, especially at half price.I have to say, if I buy Spanish made knives I'll stick to Cudeman, I appreciate their quality and price.
Your write up doesn't match the pics.
Those are kind of sad looking. They'll probably clean up fine, but I remember when Pumas had serial numbers and there was a reason for it, damn fine made and a warrantee that was worth something.
