Hey gang
on: June 16, 2015, 04:27:09 PM
Hello,

I'm based in Australia.  I'm a chef so knives are an important part of my job/life.  Recently I have started collecting a few nice single blade folding knives and as such my interest in quality multitools has come back to the forefront of my mind.

I owned and lost a victorinox huntsman as a child.  I've had my cybertool 34 for 12 years and recently picked up a compact, electrician, and a beat up troubleshooter.

I'm intrigued by the SAK modding that goes on and would love to find a 93mm alox with scissors, or even work out how to do it myself.

I have also recently acquired a leatherman wingman, sideclip and rebar.

That's my multitool story I guess.  I'd like to expand my knowledge while here and possibly even purchase a few more of these invaluable tools.

See you on the boards.

Welcome!   :tu:  Some great choices, so far  ;)

There's a board here called the Mod Squad with lots of information and pictures about modding and what it entails.  This thread, in particular, has a handful of detailed guides:
http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,43303.0.html

Learning how to mod SAKs is how I found this place, and found there's a pretty great group a people here.

Do you have any pics of your SAKs/MTs?  We like pictures here :)

Welcome from a fellow down-under MTo enthusiast (I'm mostly into plier-based MTs, but I do have a couple of SAKs).

I'm working in a Japanese restaurant cutting sashimi at the moment.  The knives that get the most use are a Masamoto 24cm high carbon gyoto and a Misono UX10 24cm sujihiki.  You have to treat em right but Japanese blades make it a pleasure to slice.  That being said I have many many chefs knives and have more than 10 Victorinox with the rosewood handles, that I used faithfully for the first 10 years of my cooking career.

Not many photos at this stage but I'm sure I can oblige.  Is it easy to post straight from your computer or is it best to use photobucket or similar?

Yep, you can just add photos as attachments whenever you post.  Click where it says "Attachments and other options" below the text box and you can upload photos there.

I would say Photobucket is easiest.

Once uploaded onto Photobucket you just click the "Copy img url" button and paste it in your post. No need to add tags or anything. It is automatically done for you.

Are the scissors on a wave the same as the ones on a wingman?  I struggle to cut my fingernails on my right hand with the wingman ones, they're a bit loose.  That's why I need to add some scissors to an alox SAK.

Sorry for the slow reply mate. Wave scissors are much smaller, and fold in on themselves. I'd doubt if Wingman scissors would fit into a Sideclip chassis.
