Anyone have a broken SOG Flash I?

I am hoping someone has a busted SOG Flash I as I need parts. Mainly the handle, but possibly more once I tear the knife down and see what actually happened. I would like to restore it to working order. If you have a busted Flash I let me know.  :tu:

I have owned 3 Flash II's, but never a Flash I. I like the small size.

I accidentally stabbed myself in the stomach with it so hopefully I don't need a tetanus shot. I really wish I was joking, but am not.

I just took it all apart. Its looking pretty rusty. I might give all the parts a coke bath until they are hopefully restored a bit. I think the springs might be shot though.

As to how it broke. Nothing internally looks broken. Just looks like it got crushed. Probably fell out of someones pocket and later got run over by something heavy.

Capt, I wonder what SOG would do if you sent it in for warranty "repair"?

I was thinking the same, but I already took it apart. I mean I could put it back together easily and send it in, but it might be a waste of shipping cost.

Here is what the inside looks like. Very dirty. I did lose the tiny little ball that goes in the hole on the lock (where the red paint is). I might replace it if I get a donor Flash or might just glue the safety or remove it.

I might. I doubt anyone is going to have a donor.

I have not washed it yet, but if I do I will put some sort of protective on it. I don't know if I would trust the spring anymore though.

Yea... not sure what I will do with it. I'm not really wanting to put it back together and send it in as i'm almost positive they will send it back untouched. If I could find a donor I would take a crack at piecing one together, but really do not want to use the rusted springs and such. The perfect donor would be a good shape Flash with a broken blade. I doubt that is going to happen. I might just chuck all the parts in the trash and not worry about it.

Well I had a bottle of coke so I figured I would give the parts a coke bath to get the rust off. I probably wont even scrub all the small parts as I don't really care that much. I might do the dishonorable thing and put it back together and send it into SOG to see if I get lucky with a replacement. Either that or try my hand at gluing the scales back together really well and then reassembling it and using it as a letter opener.

Well after it sitting around for a while I sent it to SOG's warranty department to test how they handle it. I have dealt with a lot of knife/MT warranty departments, but never SOG so it will be interesting to see what they do.

Several years ago when I sent my Leatherman Core back....never heard anything till a new Core showed up in the mail nearly 2 months later...no documentation, just a new (unpackaged) Core wrapped up inside a bubble Tyvek envelope. I thought this must be how such things were handled.   ???    Hope your SOG warranty return is a pleasant experience Cap.

I honestly have no expectations of them replacing it. If they do then great. If not then that is fine as well. It would be great if a new Flash I shows up though.  :D

I still think you did the right thing in sending it in to them. I just wish there were better communication from LM/SOG etc regarding warranty repair status.
