Show your LIGHTERs
on: July 22, 2015, 02:40:01 PM
I just saw an active thread about some lighters, so decided to look up threads for lighters in general.. and didn't see any GENERAL lighters thread. There are some devoted to specific brands, but here I want to

SEE YOUR REAL EVERYDAY LIGHTERS :D

If possible, post pictures! :D

I don't smoke, don't know the first thing about lighters, I don't even use them much. Now I'm carrying a generic mini Bic. But when I was a kid,, I liked collecting my father's lighters.... and there were some cool ones.

So, can you show your lighters? Do you use one often? What for? :D

This is a good thread. Even if you don't smoke lighters are functional and the good ones have interesting mechanisms and construction like other good tools.

I dont carry a lighter but I have been looking to pick up a flat bottom simple text Zippo.  I do have several lighters around the house and several more in my camping gear as well as one in my truck.

I carry a large clipper, though I was just given a steel sleeve for the small one, they're hard to locate here.. So when I find a a small one it'll be a little clipper in a steel sleeve :tu:

@rebel,

Thanks :) Yeah, there've been a few occasions on which I wished I had a lighter.

@Chako,

 LOL, that's a very cool-looking one :D

@Aloha,

Yes, btw, how don't you carry a light since you go camping so often, lol

@SAKnight

I've got a few mini clippers laying around, btw, they're also nice. I like everything that's "mini", lol

Clippers are my favourite lighters, and I'm including mini clippers in that too. I do use petrol lighters occasionally, but clipper lighters are cheap, reliable and of course hold fuel longer than petrol lighters. Bic and other cheapos are OK, but don't come anywhere close to clippers IMHO. They're like the Mora or Opinel of the lighter world

@NNR I have several lighters in my camping gear and inside my coleman stoves.  I also have one stashed in my truck.  I dont smoke nor hang out with anyone that does but I do see it being useful.

I have single color BIC lighters on the desks at home and office. Prefer jet flame lighters which are not available at most stores. Xikar Allume black/tuxedo for occasional cigar smoke.

yeah, I figured I should carry one as I hate the fact my sister has to strike several times before she manages to light her cigarette especially on a more complicated driving situation.

Jet flames disposable lighters fire up better than regular Bic, according to my short experience using them. How about a traditional fire piston? Haha.

Carry a luminous green mini Bic with a split ring through the vent on my key chain its like an awesome little multitool.

Open bottles
Singe threads on clothes
Melt the ends off rope/paracord to prevent it coming apart
Lighting bunsen burners in the lab
Field sterilizing for basic first aid procedures
In winter use it to thaw out the padlocks
A light source in a pinch

Other obvious uses
Light other peoples cigs (dont smoke myself).. easiest conversation starter ever  ;)
Lighting candles, camping stove, the fire in living room

Awesome and cheap to replace should the need arise

+1
BIC's are better in general, and for the best part of the 17 years I smoked 40-60 per day, I learned all the tricks to refilling and keeping a Clipper running.
Including the almost-new flint from an empty BIC  :D
