Hi Team,
Before I joined MTo I had never heard of the terms GAW or RAK.
I quickly learnt what a GAW was - and to be honest I was pretty staggered – “You mean stuff is given away for free, effectively just for being a member of this free forum?'. It seemed barely credible. “Why would they? What's in it for them?” Be they individual members or our sponsors (eg LM in the anniversary month).
It seemed very strange.
A little while later I learnt about RAKs. … Same questions in my head …... “Surely in these ‘every man for himself’, selfish days in which we live - people just do not do that?”.
And, most likely, in the MTo case, to someone you have never even met.
Anyway after another little while, I learnt that this really is the MTo way
…… So on top of this amazing community of information, fun, camaraderie, support and sharing – If that were not enough – which it is BTW!
– People are incredibly generous and help each other out finding tools, shipping stuff and actually giving tools away as unsolicited gifts .... Amazing!!
I had never received a RAK, or won a GAW, (I had entered a few), but that did not matter, I just loved this whole atmosphere and generous positive environment.
Well now I myself, have been the subject of an incredibly generous RAK.
I put this little table together based on the information in the PST chronology thread :
http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,60256.msg1107583.html#msg1107583I happened to mention, …. more of a sad collectors joke really - that maybe I should get hold of a Japanese PST to add to my collection of three PSTs.
And hey presto – As if by magic - A couple of weeks later a Japanese PST arrives in my letterbox - Thanks to
Gregozedobe . Thank you so much Greg. That is just incredibly generous.
And even though I am trying to curb my collecting (…. pipe dream??!!) - As someone who loves the evolution and history of tools - I am incredibly pleased to have the JPST in my collection - and am amazed at just how many differences there are between the JPST and my other ones - which are all much more recent.
And without taking
anything away from Greg's generosity - I have seen this happen many times here. Someone mentions something in a thread about a tool they missed out on or want - And someone else gives it to them.
Ridiculous(ly wonderful). Long live MTo and its fabulous members....
