Cleaning a G-Shock with an Ultrasonic Cleaner
on: August 04, 2015, 12:22:45 AM
Anyone tried cleaning a G-Shock with an ultrasonic cleaner?  I am getting one, and thinking of using it on some ebay G-Shocks,  any advice?

I think it should be safe,  but better to ask.

Perfectly safe. Just make sure you disassemble the case completely

I was mainly thinking for surface cleaning, leaving the watch together.  but I can see the brilliance of taking the module out, and running all the other pieces through too.
If I can help, let me know

Yea, that's a good, professional deal. (pun intended)   I need one for 240 volt.

I would not recommend putting whole watch in there. Sound waves blast washing liquid to smallest possible cracks, and takes dirt out. It could affect on watches engine, and take some parts out. It is kind of shaker.

Edit. Maybe i should say, sound waves makes vibrations, wich may be harmful and loosen parts inside watch.

I actually noticed, that it might losen cellidor scales when cleaning them. Specially if water is hot. Above 45 Celsius scales will warp. But then again, scales come loose in use anyway.

I am sure I will have to play with it to find my right "recipe" but I will start with just warm water and work from there.
I do appreciate all the help.

Resist the temptation. Take out the module and just brush the strap and bezel with a toothbrush and mild detergent.

Add a drop of dishsoap. Just one drop, and it will make huge difference.  Just plain soap, not washing machine soap.

I get some good results with soft toothbrush and whitening toothpaste. Something to consider besides ultrasonic. Sure it takes little more effort, but cleans good.

My Mudman is pretty easy to take apart. Putting back together is a cinch,  and hasn't compromised the water resistance.

late reply...  but

I do use a US cleaner, from LIDL, for watches.

I doubt that the small amplitude/power vibrations will damage a gshock, though they may affect other watches. My cleaner comes with a base for watches, to avoid any scratching.

The main issues, the way I see them are:

1. What happens if you watch, from eBay, is not waterproof? You will need to make sure that the seals are OK, before putting it in water.

2. The cleaner will remove oil/grease/etc including some from the gaskets, seals etc. It will be wise to re-lubricate, with silicone, the gasket after that

funny, my brother in law is a dentist, we talked about something similar for saks in the past and he mentioned he had replaced his old smaller machine with his new one, but he has no idea where the old one is unfortunately, and nothing goes into the new one but his dental gear for obvious reasons.

I had hoped to get the old one and do something similar for knives/tools/etc.
The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.
