Why elaborate paracord lanyards?
« on: August 11, 2008, 08:28:33 PM »
I understand the benefits of both lanyards and some good rope, but I am not sure I understand why people like those complex paracord lanyards I see so often.

You can't wrap most of them around your wrist or neck, and it doesn't seem like an overly complicated way to store some rope.

Could someone please enlighten me? And yes, I immediately noticed that it looks cool... :)

But why not make it in a loop so you can wrap it around your hand too?

Good question, some people do make both in one lanyard. I don't like hugely long lanyards on my tools as it gets in the way when using it (especially driving screws) so a short "elaborate" one is better as it can't get tangled up in the tool during use :)

A small rope or string would work fine for lanyards but learning to tie some more elaborate ones is a fun hobby.
Here are some that I have learned to tie

For you guys who are interested in learning you have to check out Stormdranes site. He is a member here and a wealth of information.
