Victorinox 85 Delemont line question
on: August 25, 2015, 06:35:34 PM
As some of you may know, I love doing custom scales for SAKs, in wood and various other materials. I stay away from Wenger because of the nested liner construction, i.e. the scales go over and "hug" the liners, which means there is significant milling required to get a factory type scale.

My question is, does the 85mm Victorinox Delemont line have the construction like Wenger or Victorinox? In other words, do the scales go to the very edge of the liners, like on a 84mm Tinker for example, or do they go over the liners like on the Wenger Evo series? I hope my question is clear enough to understand. If someone could also provide me with some pics of a Victorinox Delemont in 85mm with the scales taken off, I would be extremely grateful.

Thanks in advance MTO!

The new Delemont scales are like the standard Vic ones.

That is spectacular, Victorinox fixed the only thing I thought Wenger was doing wrong! :D

I would still appreciate it if someone has a pic with the scales taken off, just to check for pin alignment :)

I have a Victorinox Evo 14, and the scales still overlap the edges of the liners for the sake of the Evo shape.

I haven't had one apart, so I'm not sure whether they are nested inside the liners or not.

An easy way to tell the type of liners is to look at the toothpick/tweezers.  If there are notches cutout on the scales like standard Vics have then it will have normal liners.  The overlap style scales will have the wenger style T&T.   :tu:

Are the scales thicker than standard 84mm cellidor?

Well some here already use me as their MTO search engine. :P

But i must admit I'm nit so current on all the info in newer threads, too many hobbies, too little time.

Newer scales are all Evo, so contoured and thicker. I hate that and it's one of the reasons I still don't have any. But the local department store has almost the complete selection and I've had a chance to play with them a bit. ;)

You don't have to make them as thick though. Regular thickness as on Classic style scales would be enough and greatly improve on the EDC factor. :tu:

Ya I would think it would be an upgrade to make scales not as thick as Evo ones.

Looking forward to seeing the result.

PS. I really shouldn't be posting from my phone, half asleep. Just saw all the spelling mistakes and mixed up letters from the previous post.
