Gerber Dime backspring question
on: September 01, 2015, 09:46:23 PM
I apologize for the bad camera.  It is hard to see, but the backspring under the package opener appears "bent". (For example, in the second picture the spring on the left lines up exactly with the scale, the spring on the right is curved and there is a gap between it and the scale.) There is a significant gap between the backspring and the scale.  It doesn't really affect tool use, but aesthetically it just drives me nuts.

The scales seem flush, so I was wondering if maybe it was constructed this way on purpose (since the scissors on the opposite side are thicker than the box cutter)?  Do you guys think it would be feasible to take this apart and bend the spring so that it lies flush, or should I just make peace with it?  What do yours look like?

I have such mixed feelings about this thing.

Thanks folks.  :salute:

Mine's not like that. If it doesn't affect function, I'd (try to) ignore it. If you start taking it apart and trying to deform springs, you might weaken them/induce cracking, and have worse problems down the line
