Swiss champ in a large Zermatt
on: September 03, 2015, 11:32:16 AM
May have been asked about before but I am just making sure before I buy that a Swiss Champ with fit in a large Zermatt Sheath?

Cheers

Ian

(Plus is there anywhere to but the sheath in the UK instead of off Amazon.com)

It fits. Might be a bit snug to start, but a nice lanyard fob will help solve that problem until the sheath breaks in.

Can't help too much with the online retailer portion of your question as I bought mine in a local outdoors store.

A bit of research is needed here. First how large is it actually? Check the specs on the SC and find out how wide it is. This is the most needed item in finding a pouch to carry it in.

Next go thru the Victorinox catalog and look at the bottom of the section for your knife. There you will find the suggested pouches for that particular knife. Now compare the width of the pouch to the width of the knife. They should be the same. If not, move on to something else.

For example - I wanted a leather pouch for my EVO S54 Tool Chest plus. The one in the catalog shows a nylon one with a Velcro closure. Not what I wanted. Just below that in the pouch section was a red leather one with a snap closure. It will take the same width. Took forever to find one and finally bought it out of Euro-Knife. It works. A bit snug at first but now works like glass. You also need to break it in, much like a baseball fielder glove.

Just my experience.

I have a Zermatt pouch. If you have ordered yet, there are a couple items to consider:

  • Styling is decidedly old-fashioned. (basket-weave stamping) Is that what you're after?
  • The leather is not cut for the belt loop, but has a belt loop sewn on. This is a possible future failure point.
  • It rides high on the belt, so it is not comfortable if you have love handles.
But the quality is tops, and the snap closure is great.

I found a previous post that had a link to a site that sold another version. Is there any other options with a snap closure?

Cheers
