Eddie's LM Squirt Challenge Thread
on: September 06, 2015, 07:29:19 AM
Well the first few days have been pretty tame so far, but I'll hopefully liven it up as we go.  I plan to use my PS4, but loaned it out for a couple days (see below) and switched to my ES4.

Day 1 (PS4):  Fixed a shower head while visit my brother, sister-in-law, and new baby niece at the hospital.  Then loaned it to my brother for a couple days while he was at the hospital.  Apparently he was a bit distracted by the birth of his first child and forgot his SAK :)   I switched to my ES4 for a few days until my PS4 came back.  Only pics to show from that day were the posed shots from the morning.

Day 2 (ES4):
Tightened a few drawer/cabinet handles after I noticed a loose one.

Day 3 (ES4):
Package opening duty (a SOG Paratool was inside, that I can't carry for a month...)

Day 4 (PS4):
Got the PS4 back from my brother.  Everyone's back home and doing well, and he has his own tools back.  Used mine to pop scales of a SAK that needed to be re-peened.  It was a mod I did a long time ago.  I've been cataloging some SAKs and remembered I was going to tighten this one up.

I normally use a dulled older SAK blade for this job, but this blade did just fine.

Though, I remembered why I use a dull blade, as I caught myself just a bit with the tip.  I'll might have to wait until October to pop off anymore scales :)

Edit: Looking at that last picture, it really looks like a pretty weak cut.  But it does document the PS4's work for the month, so I guess it's alright.

Day 6:
My side view mirror was bumped by someone, not too uncommon.  But this time, the mirror itself was knocked loose from the enclosure.  Used the phillips to fish out the broken plastic piece.  Then, later, used the pliers to hold little parts in place to glue it back together with a little brace.

So my son was born today!  Little Jonah was 7lb 12oz, 20.5in (I'm too tired to convert to metric, sorry).  Mom and baby are healthy and sleeping.

As for the challenge...

Day 7:
With my son being born today, the Squirt was used to cut the cord...

Haha, no that's crazy

I did use the blade to open some frozen berries for a smoothie for my wife.  Tried to keep the house calm and dark, so bad pictures.

I also used it to cut the tape I used for attaching the hose for filling the tub (the adapter was the wrong size and needed a little improvisation).

Congrats bud!!

Looks like he is getting the PS4 for a first tool? Considering  you were using it for his birth month? That'd be cool.

That's a good thought, it'd be tough to find a better idea really :tu:

Day 11:
Used the fixed part of the scissors as a seam ripper to remove a sewn on tag from a stuffed animal.  Definitely not the toughest job it's seen, but stretches the versatility :)

Congrats!

Love this challenge. It´s one I could do too. The PS4 has so much utility it´s incredible.

It can really deliver in a pinch. My son does RC racing 4WD and with just the PS4 I can fix most anything on that little car. The precise plier, small philips work great and the small file is a gem in this case.

Great EDC item.

First:
Congratulations! Enjoy every minute, pal.
Second:
I have learned that those sewn in labels are often the most loved part of a stuffed toy, so now I just leave them there (Textile ones only, no plastic ones). My son loved to feel and grab those labels.

Thanks!  And I agree, I should have shown the after picture.  There were a few tags together.  I removed the more scratchy ones, but left the main one that was cloth.  Our second daughter had a very similar stuffed animal, and she liked to carry it around by that same tag.

Day 16:
At the pediatrician today, and while we waited for the doctor, there was a wobbly instrument tray (tray on tall stand with wheels).  Tightened up a hex bolt underneath to make it sturdy again.  Didn't need their instruments failing on the floor while checking on my kid :tu:

Used the scissors to help with a backpack repair.  As a side note, I'm not that great at sewing
