Which Gerber is this?
on: September 30, 2015, 09:55:30 PM
Hey guys

I was given this in 1998.  I'm just curious which Gerber it is.
I saw in the for sale section someone was selling a Gerber called the Scout, it looks very similar, only mine doesn't have scissors.

This tool did me well for alot of years but once I ruined the wire cutters I didnt use it alot.

Looks like a classic MP600 but I may be wrong. Jerseydevil should be along to help. Or chako. He is really good at knowing his tools.

Yeah just a needlenose MP 600.  I have the same knife, same sheath too in fact.

Does anyone know what year Gerber switched from the drop point to the wharncliffe plain edge blade on these?

That's an MP600 Basic.  Good solid tool. :tu:  The Pro Scout has scissors and a replaceable saw. As for the blades, I have no clue.

Might this actually qualify as a Multi-Lock given it's age?  Same tool as the MP600 but with an older name. :)

The Gerber Multi-lock and then MP600 Scout had an awl. The Gerber MP600 Pro Scout enchanged the awl for the saw blade exchanger.

AFAIK the Multilock does not have an awl - it does have the loadout of the "standard" MP 600. The Scout does have an awl. I do agree that your tool probably is a Multilock.

If you want to get yours back to service, you can either send it to Gerber for a warranty exchange or someone on here (me, for example) moight be able to supply a spare plier head.

Thats a generous offer! Thanks!
I'd have no idea how to change the head.

I'll probably just leave it for now, I've got a SOG and a Leatherman to keep me going.

It is super easy to do and will only take a minute, well worth the effort.
