Byrd Meadowlark [from Corwyn]
on: October 01, 2015, 08:53:03 AM
It'll be here tomorrow

Long story short, I won this prize in his daughter's name giving GAW, the knife's been in BG for a week or so, but I haven't been home for some time, so I'll get it only tomorrow

I'm impatient  :ahhh :ahhh

Thanks, Corwyn for the awesome prize, I'll post pics as soon as I have it in my hands  :mail:

And it's high time you showed some new pics of your sweet daughter

Really good little knife.
Which one is it? FRN?  G10?  SS?

Ignore the light cheap feel of the FRN  as it's all in the mind.
Spyderco design and ergonomics with a few rough edges.

Can't recommend them more.

No idea actually :D

And yes, I've seen lots of good reviews on YT, some people even prefer them over the Delica as they offer almost the same for a lot less money.

I'll love it no matter what it is  I've wanted another Spydie since I got my Ambitious (which did feel cheap at the beginning, believe it or not), but never got down to buying one as I had to drastically decrease my fun expenses for reasons.

Soooooooooo, can't wait to get it

If I know Corwyn (which I don't), he'll have included a comprehensive FAK and some plasma. Just in case.

That Sharksuit is a kind of stainless chain mail, I guess.

That could work, provided her knives are dull enough  >:D

I don't think so. That's part of the problem, never a dull moment with that girl...

The Byrd line looks like a great option to the more expensive Spydercos.  I had a play with the Meadowlark and thought it was terrific.  I even like the tear drop deployment hole.

From what I've read, I believe it's supposed to be a tallon.

Okay, it's here

Well, first impressions (while the pics are uploading): of course I love it; it doesn't feel cheap to me, I knew what to expect; there's no blade play whatsoever neither side to side nor up to down; it opens wonderfully with one hand, though one-handed closing might be a problem; it's razor razor sharp (cuts soft recycled newspaper paper perfectly) :D

Glad it got there ok and you like it.
Enjoy your new toy...

FRN does look and feel a bit cheapish but it's a darned good scales material, very resilient and grippy - my Dragonfly 2 ZDP189 is in FRN, it's my edc since I got it and it was NOT CHEAP at all...

Alex looks very suspicious of your FRN explanation :D :D :D :D

Cheapish or not.... to be honest, I don't make much difference between FRN or my Ambi G10
I love it, it looks and feels rather stable, no play, nothing :D

When I get home I'll probably change the clip to tip down carry, though.

I like the grip of FRN as well.  What makes a knife feel cheep is when they get to you dull and with blade play IMO.

I've had the knife on me for more than 24hrs already and I've loved it, actually. The finish on the blade looks very nice and smooth and shiny ... which is somehow different from my Ambitious. Tomorrow I'll have a chance to compare it to my Ambi :D

It's a definitely a very cool, light EDC kinfe, it's smaller than I expected, which is good for my hand size. It's better than I expected and I look forward to years of good service from it :salute:

The Meadowlark feels a lot lighter and therefore more delicate.
