Esee Izula -DT,DE or G?
on: October 03, 2015, 05:12:45 AM
Recently bought myself a 2nd hand orange izula on ebay for my self-birthday-present. Turned up, something did not seem right, yep counterfeit  izula. Got refund so all  good.

http://www.eseeknives.com/fake-esee.htm

So decided i am never going to get a second hand izula and will have to buy new.
As i LOOOOOOVE the micarta scales on my Becker necker BK11's i will be equiping the ESEE counterpart

So i have narrowed therm down to 3 colours. As i already own Desert Tan CANDIRU i thought perharps Dark Earth, just uncertain if its a Almost Greenish Brown ( :tu: ) or Somewhat Brownish Green ( :-\ )   and just to add in the mix i'd be open to Grey.

If anyone has any or all of these combinations feelfree to post pictures.

Does anyone here have a Izula and a Becker 14? Would love a comparison shot.

I have a 24 and a fake izula, if you'd like

Edit: In fact there they are. Mora companion for scale.  :)

Correct! Instead of 50-100b, it is d2. The izula is believed to be 5cr. I wanted these to be stainless, as they are the type of knife I may lend out camping, and want them to survive  :D

Forgot to answer the op.

Just get whatever color, strip it and get a sweet patina going.

As a Bk11 fan i bought a bk14 when it came out. Held it for less than a minute and decided it felt wrong. Onsold it that day through ebay. I guess thats the reason i have taken about 4 years to lay down funds on an IZULA.

C'mon guys this is time sensitive, you have to votes on three choices.

This is the real answer!

As for disliking the 14, why? If it was the handle, why would you want an izula?

The Bk14 came after a zillion online reviews comparing BK11 and Izula. The same thing was repeated. Like the larger blade of the bk11, prefer the handle of izula. Then some guy cut the two up and welded it together, which excited people and kabar saw there was a genuine market.

I don't think Mr Becker of the people of ESEE where to thrilled about collaborating on a the Bk14 but so long as they got their royalties the was no need to oppose it.
I recall Ethan being diplomatic when he was asked about the D2 BK24 hitting the market. He was like 'urrr...i think 1095 is usually sufficient ."

Whilst i didn't like the handle on the bk14, i believe the camber of the Izula blade would make it a better suited for the handle. I love my candiru, which i got as i wanted a rugged micro option. Handling the counterfeit wasn't to bad. Didn't do any work with it as i am expecting i need to send it back if the guy sends me his return address.

Also having had a paracord wraped bk11 , a micarta handled bk11 and a plain skelotonized one i a aware how notably different the knife feels in my hand... which is why i am going straight for the micarta (who knows, maybe with micarta or g10 i'd like the bk14?)

I assume the kabar zytel would also fit? I've been torn which scales to get when I get sick of my cord wrap on the 24. I feel the zytel gives the biggest handle, which is my goal as it's not huge.

I want to get a genuine izula eventually, I just want more time with the fake after I reprofile it a bit. Just stripped the paint on it actually  :D

Have you purchased a color yet?
Also, go brown!!

Not yet, today is my 32nd year of birth as my sister put it, was going to wait till poll cloes tomorow but may get impatient today as there is little voting going on anyway.

The bk14 g10 scales should fit an izula. I read somewhere that the metal is a little fatter on the bk14 meaning you need to remove a little material around the guides if you want to fit a izula micarta on the bk14..

What'd you go with?

I'm thinking Dark Earth with G10 Green/Black handles and orange liners.

Dark Earht,

but no one on ebay wiill combine shipping, they sayits automated and that it calculates it. The same price that if i bought items individually. Kind f makes the scales a lot dearer for something that doesn't increase volume and is marginal weight diffrene.

Anyhoooo its a mixed blessing, work has been really quite this month (self employed) and whilst i have work in theory i have to wait till the chicken hatch before i lash out the money on treats
