Bladeless tool setups
on: October 03, 2015, 06:38:24 PM
As has been discussed before, we have pretty draconian knife laws in the UK, so it's nice that SOGs can be easily customised into a law-friendly, bladeless configuration.  Here are mine.

Pocket Power Plier:
  • Wire stripper
  • Can opener modified into a small screwdriver for electrical terminal blocks
  • 1/4" drive
  • Phillips
  • Cap lifter
  • V cutter
The wire stripper and V cutter are both designed to go on the left side, but it turns out that the V cutter fits fine on the right if you put a spacer to the right of it (second picture).

Switchplier 2:
  • Scissors
  • 1/4" drive
  • cap lifter
  • file
I like this configuration for the Switchplier, as unlike the standard setup, all the tools can be opened without having to deploy the pliers.
However I have to say the scissors are pretty disappointing.  They can't handle anything more than paper or thin thread.  Just too thin and flexible.  I'm thinking I might change them out for another V cutter, which obviously has its own limitations, but can at least cut cord of a reasonable thickness.

Nice work, I have the identical set up in my Switchplier  :tu:

Before my Paladin PT510 (a variant of the PPP) got stolen, I upgraded it with parts from a PST II. At that stage I left the knife blade in, but if I repeated it today I would change that

Just thought I'd mention that if you didn't get along with the current toolset  ;)

At the moment, I also have a modded knifeless Kick, Fuse, MP400, and Diesel though  :D

Did you have to mod the PSTII scissors to fit in?

Nope, they go together like lego  :)

BTW that's the PST II diamond file there too  ;)

That's very interesting.  Good replacements for two of SOG's poorer tools.  I'll have to keep an eye out for an old Leatherman.
