Greetings from Chicago!
on: October 13, 2015, 05:14:53 AM
Hello there! I’m new to the forum. Been interested in multi-tools as far back as I can remember, but recently caught the bug to collect them. I can already tell it’s pretty addicting (as can my wife), since the last couple months have been a fairly intense “accumulation” phase.

I’m a lawyer by trade, but grew up on a farm in Kentucky and was surrounded by knives and tools from a young age. Some of my earliest memories are of going to gun/knife shows with my dad and getting a souvenir pocketknife, getting my first SwissChamp for winning Cub Scout awards, and picking out strange knives and multi-tools from the Smoky Mountain Knife Works catalog for Christmas/birthday gifts.

I carried a Leatherman Micra for a number of years, and my interest was recently re-sparked when looking for a pocketable multi-tool with a corkscrew (I guess I’m fortunate in that my lifestyle seems to put me situations where a corkscrew may be needed at a moment’s notice). During the research phase, I stumbled on this site and have been blown away by all the information available here while drooling over some members’ collections. I settled on a Leatherman Juice XE6, and things have escalated from there.

Right now, my collecting interests are focused on Leatherman and custom/rare tools. I would definitely appreciate any advice the more seasoned members have, especially regarding places in Chicago that may sell older/used multi-tools. The surrounding suburbs have outdoor stores - like Cabelas – that sell the newer stuff, but Chicago proper isn’t exactly the best place to find items with knife blades…

Look forward to joining the community!

Welcome aboard

Look for a retired  Leatherman Flair on E-bay, it has a corkscrew and would be a cool piece for your collection.

Solving problems you didn't know you had in the most obscure way possible

"And now, it's time to hand this over to our tame race axe driver. Some say, he can live in the forest for six months at a time without food, and he knows of a secret tribe of only women where he is their God. All we know is, he's call the Styx!" - TazzieRob

Greetings and Welcome,  great name btw  :D

I was also gonna mention the Flair but clearly you have been a busy bee.  As you may already know check our sale and trade threads as well as EDC Source store.

I'm sure one of our Chicago members will be along to direct you to a good "fishing hole" in your area.  Have fun with the collecting I know I sure do.

welcome to the forum,  and I am sure we can help you find other things to buy.  Swiss Army knives in general are really cool to collect.   :climber:
If I can help, let me know

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

Still waiting on a couple deliveries. I will post pics once I get them; probably Thursday or Friday.  :mail:

Is there a specific thread where everyone posts their collections, or should I just start my own in the General Tool Discussion board?

We're fairly easy going in that regard, but if it's all LM,then the Leatherman forum works best. If it's a mix of brands then the General forum is good :tu:
