MT use in the Military

The MultiTool, a soldier's best friend? I can't answer that, but I am always pleased when I see MTs in hard use - and can you think of a harder function test than in a soldier's hand?

Without further ramblings, the video that inspired this thread:

I just wonder of it has to be decontaminated now?

I had a PST 2 with me in the army.
It was used mostly for opening cans and food containers, servicing the primus, cleaning weapons, triming nails, changing batteries, cooking and holding hot items.

My current Squadron is this first I've been part of that issued multitools, Gerber MP600 in BO. However, many units do issue them. I've observed that their use is similar to what you see outside the military. Some people use them and carry them constantly, others don't.

For my money, they have helped me out countless times. From picking FO out of the tires of my fuel truck, to reattaching grounding cables to their clamps, and almost anything else in my current job as Facility Manager.

What is the tool in the video? Swisstool?

Been in a few units that issue the BO MP 600s. Use them like most military folks to open MREs and cutting 550 cord. The thing they are most useful for is getting ammo boxes open.

One of the Troops in our Squadron issues LM ST 300s to everyone. Never seen that before. If I would have known before hand I might have tried for a transfer lol.

Yep.  Video is of Danish troops on a NATO exercise - the BO Swisstool has been issued to some Danish units, apparently.

That's new to me. I know BO Swisstools had been issued to Aussies (later changed to Schrade Tough Tools that aren't really tough regretfully) but as far as I know and the info we got from Victorinox was that the Danish troops were getting issued Adventurers in red.

Do you happen to know which branch is getting then and when this started?

Thanks, don't know how I missed that when it was posted. I practically lived on MTO back then.

Not that I could read it in Danish anyways.... :P

We were issued BO swisstools too, as part of the squad gear. 1 swisstool per squad. That was a hopeless arrangement and the Army knew it, so they actually encuraged us to bring our own MT, maglite and watch in the battalion assignment letter.  So most of us did. :D
(We also bought our own knives with the battalion insignia on the sheath)
