[TRADED] Vintage German (Richartz) pocket knife
on: November 02, 2015, 09:45:30 PM
For sale from my collection (to fun an upcoming move):

Richartz Pocket Knife
Sak-like construction and I dare say Sak-like quality, too.
Unused from what I can tell, but some dawer marks onm the scales.

4 layer with some rather unusual tools - I think it´s an electricians knife of some sort...

Can opener and Bottle opener/screwdriver
Scissors
long flat screwdriver
blade with cable
blade with cable stripper blade portion

Backside tools:
Phillips
Awl

Keyring on middle liner
brass liners, all stainless tools

Red plastic scales

No makers mark (INOX Solingen Germany tang stamp), but from the shape of tools and construction my educated guess would be Richartz from teh 70s.

Will make a nice user, but maybe interesting for SAK mods, too?!

I ask 30

...sorry. Forgot about pricing.
I think 35,- € plus shipping is fair?!

The size is quite exactly the same as a 91mm Vic while the Phillips is on the other side of the knife as CS or Phillips are on a Vic.

The price is not set in stone and I am open to trades - I am a bit puzzled that there is no interest, as I find teh implements quite interesting for a SAK-like construction. Usually those long screwdrivers and wire stripping blades are only found in the typical 2 bladed electricians knives.

Too many Swiss cross FANatics here  :D . Paint a cross on it and it will sell like hotcakes,

If it makes you want it, I´ll paint a cross on the scale.... :pok:

honestly, I think the cheaply looking plastic scales don´t do the knife justice - Some nice wooden scales and a polish and lube would make a big difference. Now I wonder if I maybe should send it over to MWDP for a rescale and keep it?! Test my skills with wood?! Come on, someone must have an old Gerber Fit or somnething to trade me.... I shall not amass more projects!  :ahhh

I have a few older German pocket knives, maybe those will lure someone away from SAKs long enough to say "I want".
There are quite a few well made and nice looking pocket knives around, even some of the SAK copies from brands like Mikov or GML are, although copies, nice knives.

It is a little frustrating that people call these SAKalikes, as if the concept has been copied from the Swiss companies. Here in Sheffield and over in Solingen, multipurpose knives were made for a few centuries in various formats, including the one often recognised as a SAK.

I have had a number of good knives like this from Germany, and hope this one finds a new and appreciative home soon

I agree that one should distinguish multi-bladed pocket knives from SAKalikes or copies, although there are some where it is not clear in which category they fall. But soem companies, liek BÖKER or Richartz made/make really good pocket knives with original ideas (BÖKER is trying to get back into that market with teh Tech Tools, I think)

  • Cats have pocket knives of their own
If I remember correctly, the original 1891 Soldier that started the SAK saga was based (read, it copied) a german made pocket knife?

Ok, last price- 25,- € shipped. If this does not sell, I think I´ll give it some nicer scales and keep it.

Thomas, you mentioned a trade for a Gerber Fit earlier in the thread. I should have one of those rattling round in the car.....  ;)

...and why didn´t you mention that earlier?  :twak:
Just kidding. I´d be interested in that - I have not owned a Fit yet and yould like to fiddle with one. It may very well be used and I am not picky with the colours. If you want to trade, just shoot me a PM with your address!

Sure. Let me make sure i can find it first though  :D

It's orange, and spent most of it's life in the glove box of the car, so it's done very little work so far. In fact it's probably been used far more as a light than anything else

So that's all settled then! We've both exchanged addresses (again ) so both of us know where to not bother sending anything  :P

Sound like a fair trade to me  :tu: :D

It looks very similar to one I used to have before, but with the addition of the long screwdriver and the wire stripping channel on the knife tang. That was a well made tool, and if this is indeed the same I'll be very pleased  :)
