I've just looked at the prices
Don't get me wrong, far from excessive for a high quality knife but just not for me right now

A few days back my latest order from
CollectorKnives.net
arrived, a new release from Great Eastern Cutlery in their smallest pattern. I'm not one much for small patterns but it is a GEC and it's bladed in 440-C so I figured I'd give one a try.
It's their #25 pattern EZ-Open Barlow in Grape Jigged Bone.
The pattern in 3" closed, and this particular one sports a flat ground Sheepsfoot blade. Bolsters and shield are nickle/silver and the liners and pins are brass.
Fit and finish is superb. No gaps, no blade play, stout backspring, clean mirror polish throughout, backspring remains flush with blade opened or closed, clean blade grinds and a decently sharp edge. Can't find a fault with it. It's as good a build as you can find.
Preference wise this one does sport a half-stop which I can live without. And then there is the size. I went into this one knowing how small it is, and usually I am surprised to find that while a particular knife is small it's not as small as I imagined. This one though turned out to be smaller than I imagined. It is tiny, and is the same length as my thumb. That's just too damn small to be of use for me. Here it is alongside a Case #54 pattern fullsize Trapper which measures 4 1/8" closed..........
As a user this one would be a chore to work with as my hands are just too large for such a small pattern. That said this would a be a great one for those who live in areas with restrictive laws limiting blade size or requiring non-locking folders. And talk about pocket friendly, this thing disappears in a pocket.
All told it's a well made knife with an excellent blade and some real nice bone. Way too small for me personally but might make an excellent EDC for others.
Now if GEC would make a larger version at about 4" closed or so then they would really have something here!

That's a really lovely looking knife there mate, and a fine write up
Shame it's too small for you (know how you feel on that score). But it should make a useful edc for those who like the peanut sized knives

I've nothing against a smaller knife for occasional use, but it's perhaps a little too small for a prolonged job. Whatever it's size it's certainly a looker.

Yeah, it really is a very nice slippie. The size just really limits it for me. The design would make it a superb utility piece if it were only about a inch or so longer.

My first traditional slip joint. Just a cheap rough rider nothing special. Nicely made and polished, there are gaps here and there if scrutinized, but for the price I'm not complaining. It's about as sharp as a butter knife thou, so off to the stone it goes.

Good looking knife jzmtl, if a little ostentatious for my taste. I'm still very impressed as to the quality of Rough Rider knifes given the cost. Shame it wasn't sharp though, mine had a respectable working edge on it when it came and seems to hold it well enough so I don't see you having any issues once it's sharpened up.

Yeah the handle is a bit over the top eh?
I've never had a stone handled knife so I thought heck why not, the box claim to be real material but I'm clueless about them so can't tell.
I'm in the middle of reprofling it, and the steel seems quite decent, much harder than the leatherman c33 I did a few days ago. So far the only thing I'm worried about is the backspring, some people on BF say it only last a year or two before breaking.

Mind you the handle is 5" long, so it doesn't look as busy as it appears when you have it in hand.

As Neil and I arrived back at my house after the meet today, my partner was excited to give me a present that she picked up from a local car boot sale (how cool is that - I get to go camping. drink beer and play with tools and knives - and she goes knife shopping for me
).
I'm glad Neil was there to enlighten me a bit, but it seems like it's a real MOP scaled, Sheffield built knife (I've no idea of it's age if anyone can add anything). It needs a bit of a clean and sharpen, but it's a cute little knife. There are no markings on either blade tang, so no clues there.
It came with a "snakeskin" pouch, the like of which I'd not seen before but Neil had, and cost the princely sum of 3 pounds
Here it is:
Any info about it would be very interesting

The only time I've come across those little purse pouches they contained Sheffield made penknives, though they had normally about rotted away. Without a tang stamp we'll never know for certain but given the blade style and pouch plus the fact that almost every old penknife you find at car boots originated in Sheffield I'd feel pretty confident in saying that's where it came from
