That has stunning lines

It really does. I've been looking for a couple of months for a slippie that I thought I would actually carry. This is the one for sure.  :tu:
....for a week, before moving on.

Here's some recent eye-candy of a few new toys I ordered recently that arrived the other day...........

Queen Cutlery #40 pattern Gunstock and #49 pattern Cattle King Stockman from their "Birds Eye Maple" series. The 2-blade Gunstock is 3 1/2" closed and the 3-blade Cattle King is 4 1/4" closed. Both sport nickle/silver bolsters, brass liners and pins, and brush finished flat ground D2 Tool Steel blades. The scales are Birds Eye Maple, and the one thing that has stirred on-line controversy. Alot of people really dislike this series because of the color of the BEM on these. I have to admit when I think of BEM this is not what comes to mind. But I also have to admit I really like this color of BEM......I think it is a very attractive handle material.

On my two here the Gunstock's BEM is a bit darker in color than that on the Cattle King........

.......either way I still find it an attractive scale material.

Fit and finish on both is about perfect. Both have zero blade play throughout, clean blade grinds and finish as well as sharp edges (though not quite razor shaving sharp), flush fit backsprings with blades opened or closed, and virtually seamless fit all around.

Only faults I can find is a short very faint gap on the Gunstock directly above the center pin between the shield side liner and backspring. Impossible to tell unless you are anal like me and really looking. And the Gunstock has backsprings a bit lighter than I am used to on a Queen. They ain't lazy just lighter than most.

All and all though they are excellent American made slippies. And I am glad I jumped on these when I did as this line is now discontinued and the prices are still reasonable. This line is discontinued to make room for a new series that has just been released that replaces the BEM with African Curly Zebra Wood.  :2tu:

I admit I was looking at the first one and wondering what the heck the scales were made of, I'd never have guessed at BEM.  Has it been stained at all, or are they just using some funny coloured wood?  I think they look very attractive, but I might feel differently if I had ordered one, expecting normal BEM, and opened the box to see that.

Well, I don't have many. Someday I'll start buying some, cause I like slippies a  lot, especially the smaller ones. Here's the only two I have that I actually care much about, as they have sentimental value. One on the left is my dad's, on the right my grandpa's.

NeitherExtreme-  I am fairly certain That same knife on the left is in a desk drawer at my gramma's house. Do you know anything about the history of those?

Gareth,

Honestly I am not really sure what it is that makes their BEM look this way, a stain or some other kind of treatment....I really don't know bud.

You should see their new line in Curly Zebra, it's good looking stuff too!  :tu:

Mike,

Might be a little while yet as I am waiting on a particular dealer to get these in stock as I know his prices will be a bit cheaper. But I can guarantee I will have the Cattle King and Gunstock as soon as he does, and there will be eye-candy.  ;)

Finally got some pics done of a couple new pieces that arrived last week.

This first one is a new release from Great Eastern Cutlery, their 4" closed Toothpick pattern. This one has 440-C blades, nickle/silver bolsters and shield, brass liners and pins, and the scales are very nice Jigged Antique Amber Bone.

The Toothpick has never been a pattern I particularly like but GEC's take on it is well done as it is larger than most standard Toothpicks but smaller than the larger Texas Toothpicks some makers offer. And at this in-between size they kept the broader frame style of the larger ones making this pattern much more ergonomic in the hand. It's actually growing on me. It's a neat pattern.

The build quality is typical GEC....zero gaps, zero blade play, stout backspring, clean polish throughout, and a decent edge. F&F is near perfect.

I did find one small very minor F&F issue though. When the blade is fully opened the backspring doesn't sit quite flush with the back of the frame. It sticks up just a hair, hard to see unless you really eyeball it or rub your finger over this area when the blade is opened. Nothing big, but the only thing I could find that could be considered a issue in what is otherwise a perfectly made slippie.

This next one is also a new release, that from Case. And it's a beaut. It's from their new Silverscript Series in Hunter Green Jigged Bone.

And in one of my favorite patterns from them, #75 Large Stockman! At 4 1/4" closed it sports mirror polished Tru-Sharp stainless blades with flawless grinds and sharp edges, nickle/silver bolsters and shield, brass liners and pins, and that deep green jigged bone with hints of blue that they call Hunter Green but the color looks an awful lot like their Bluegrass Bone and Aquamarine from a few years ago.

Fit and finish is near perfect. No blade play throughout, clean grinds, near flawless mirror polish, sharp edges, stout backsprings that remain flush with blades opened or closed, and near seamless fit all around......except in one area. There is a small hairline gap between the mainblade backspring and the brass spacer up towards the mainblades pivot end. It's real short and very fine, you can just make it out in my bad pic below. Nothing major and it doesn't affect anything, but it is there.

Otherwise it's another sweet piece from Case, and alot of knife for a mere $43.00 bucks.
