Victorinox 100mm utility blade in a 93mm or 91mm?
on: November 19, 2015, 07:30:54 AM
I just ordered one of these 100mm utility knives in an Amazon order.  Can these blades be used in a custom 93mm or 91mm easily?

I've seen one person do that before so yes I believe it is possible. 93mm that is.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

@Syph007 has done it. A Daypacker blade in a gorgeous Bronze (iirc) 93mm.

You can ya, but I find those blades really disappointing.  They are chisel ground so the blade edge is to one side, not in the center.  Drives me nuts. :D  Also the pivot hole is much larger, I think 4mm.

I echo what Steve and Robert have mentioned about being possible to use those different Victorinox blades, albeit with its caveats. I put a grafting blade on one 93 mm Farmer Harvester, and I am pleased with the results - and its intended use (I am a horticulturist). ...... Raul

How sharp is the top edge of the grafting blade?

The top of the grafting blade is not actually sharp, it is used to lift the cut you make on a plant's stem bark/cambium to insert a bud in there (T-budding method of grafting).

I am wondering if anyone else has used grafting blades in mods ??? I am wanting to put something together for a grafting knife but we don't have a lot of info here... I would like an inline awl, Electrician blade, the inline awl,  a grafting blade (they have 3 or so different ones from what I know) and a saw (a bark lifter would be awesome but is optional ;) :D ), also scissors are not out of the question either... Either in 91 or 93 mm frame

Has anyone done anything like this lately?

This will be used as a grafting/gardening tool for me when I am out in my yard :tu:

I took apart a 100mm floral knife a while back, but have not used the blade in a build yet. https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,82999.0.html

The hole in the tang measures 0.142", so my best guess is that the pins are 3.5mm which would equate to about 0.138".  Possible brass pin stock to fill in the hole for re-drilling and using on a 91mm build would be either 3.5mm or 9/64" (if that is available).

The blade grind does not drift to one side like a large blade on a 91/93mm so you would not be able to install an awl/combo tool/small blade on the opposite end.

The blade tang is .080" just like the "new" large blades, so you would need the dimpled liner, or use a ~0.015" bushing.

I hope this helps.
