Best games of all times!
on: November 20, 2015, 05:39:46 PM
Well, since I already started the Epic game music thread, lets go for best games of all times as well =)

What is your favorite game of all time and why?

I'll start with Baldur's Gate II, It has an awesome story, I love the romance stories in it, good modding possibility too, and replayability is awesome, I have played it like 5 or 6 times again and again :)

And of course its Forgotten Realms ;)

I never really got into too many games, and most of the ones I did like were mostly PC games as I never really had the money for fancy consoles.  Ones I did like (and betray how old I am) are:

Joust (TRS-80)
Rampage (Don't remember what I played it on)
Starcraft (PC)
Carmageddon series (PC)
Unreal Tournament (PC)
Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds (PC)
Unreal Tournament 2004 (PC)
Wii Tennis (Wii- duh!)
Star Wars: Force Unleashed II (Wii)

Lately I have been playing Marvel's Contest of Champions on my tablet, but, while fun, I don't think I would consider it one of the greats.

Frontier: Elite II on the Amiga. I don't know how many hours I have spent smuggling robots and shipping vegetables. I loved having such a free world playing around in, especially the possibility of seamlessly flying between buildings and the accelerate up through the atmosphere and explore the solar systems. :)

These days I don't play much, mostly Nintendo stuff since you can pick it up, have some fun, and then walk away.

Freelancer was another good one on the PC.  Basically you got to be Han Solo. You got a ship and hauled cargo to make money to upgrade your ship or buy new ones..... more hazardous cargo made you more money but also potentially more enemies too.

I loved Final Fantasy VII.  Also III (VI) was great, and the one that got me into RPGs.  There are many other games I loved, but I have to think of them...

Duke Nukem 3D ("Damn, those alien smurfs are gonna pay for shooting up my ride.")

Witcher (the first one)

Elder Scrolls Oblivion (Skyrim is good but the previous one had much more interesting quests and storylines)

Oh yes, I was hooked on Oblivion for a while.  Still have plenty to do in it, but fell out of it, as tends to happen with me and long term games.  Then I wanted Skyrim, but never ended up getting it.  I don't have time for games like I used to unfortunately.

I loved the Tekken series.  Haven't played much past #5 though.  I remember when 2 came out, me and a buddy went up late that night and each bought it.  Then played it for hours, and just about any time we hung out for a while.  Oh the good old days of youth and free time :dd:

Wolfenstein 3D.

Mortal Kombat is fun to play with a bunch of friends.

I played a lot until my specialty exams, when I gave my wife the PC cable to hide away in order to study. I never ended a game since because of lack of time, so my favorites are all 15-30 years old.
Leisure Suit Larry 1, 6 and 7
Doom
Heretic
Hexen
Duke Nuke'em 3D
Stonekeep
Unreal
Half Life (the best all around).

I never was a gamer but here are a few I enjoyed through the years (some I still do).

Tetris - well said Eth :tu:

Worms - Brilliant comments to top all the nasty things happening in there :D

Warrior Kings: Battles
- Immersion can be surreal in this one !

International Superstar Soccer Pro - version 1 may seem rough by today's standards but programming has many layers allowing for some pretty intense moments... Pro Evolution and Pro Evolution 2 made movevent much more fluid, but the Pro remains huge in my eyes  :D

Skyrim - I love it, maybe because I haven't played lots of RPGs but this one really won me from the start.

Honorable mention goes to Mortal Kombat series and Tekken. There are other games I liked during the years, I'll post them if I can remember them.

Millennium 2.2

Ooo... I remember dismantling a carrier to repopulate the Moon base and the swaying fields of corn in the end scene.  :tu:

I think the best Worms version I played was Worms World Party. When it went 3d it didn't work as well. What did work excellently though was Hogs Of War  :tu:

There are so many games that were of the moment.

I loved Duke Nukem 3D, back in the day. After waiting "until it's done" and trying Duke Nukem Forever when it came out, the magic was gone, and the whole feeling of the game felt out of date/out of touch.

System Shock 2 was great at the time, now I don't think I'd have the patience for it.

Loved Unreal/Unreal Tournament when they first came out... felt like the natural progression from the Quake franchise...

I really dug the Novalogic catalogue of games, such as Delta Force, Commanche, Joint Ops etc

Played a ton of multiplayer Ghost Recon with the Primerelay guys...

Warhammer 40k Dawn of War franchise got a lot of my RTS time. As did Warcraft (not World of... at least until much later) and the Command & Conquer Franchise

Company of Heroes ate a good chunk of my more recent RTS gaming time...

Diablo franchise pre broadband was nearly all I played for a while...

I would probably play a good portion of those again, but they would feel pretty dated in the graphics department.

Well I just went ahead and bought Skyrim....it'd been on my Amazon wishlist ever since it came out, and now the price is only $9.99, so I couldn't resist.  However, I won't be able to play it until we get moved into our house, which is likely a couple months away :ahhh

Oh dammit, that version would've been nice, not that the regular one won't have more than I can handle time wise ;)  I saw this version on Amazon, but it had all kinds of stuff with it and was very expensive.  Guess I should've shopped around a bit...
