Hit a deer last night.
on: November 24, 2015, 04:22:16 PM
The first time I've ever hit a deer.  Lots of suicide squirrels and once a skunk.  Unavoidable, as it darted in front of me.  It was so close that I never actually saw it in front of me, but came in from the side.  I don't think I have any damage as it probably went under my truck instead of impacting it.  I stopped and confirmed it died.

Glad you're ok! One good thing about driving a truck is you're less likely to get hurt if you hit something. I've seen some cars in pretty bad shape after hitting one.

I don't know why I find this a very scary situation :o.  I also kinda freak out when I see dogs running loose for fear of hitting them darting into the street.

Glad you are ok and good on you for confirming it died rather than suffered on the roadside.

Err, glad your ok, and to hear the trucks good. I've hit my squirrels and a skunk,(thank god I didn't have to change a tire!) but I've also hit two deer, one that was already dead, couldn't go left or right, so I had to go right over,, couple bangs but no damage, the other time I hit him right on, I slammed the breaks to try to avoid but that didn't work, I got out to check on it and it was gone. They took off and went into the woods.. As for the van he took out my break system from me slamming so hard, that and I think the grill..

Glad you're okay. Just glad you didn't hit a moose; they tend to cause a lot of damage.

Yes.  I have a friend who lives in Maine and I've heard some real horror stories of impacts with moose, specially since they stand so far off the ground.

I'll echo what everyone else said.  Hitting deer can cause serious damage and even if 150 pounds of meat coming though your car isn't lethal there's still a good possibility of losing control at 60mph.

I'm sorry to hear that a deer was killed needlessly (animal lover here) but I'm glad to hear you are ok and the damage isn't so bad.

So wait, did you keep it? Where I'm from road kill is far game.

Obviously one side was probably beyond saving but atleast the inner loins would be fine.

She might have a better track record than a lot of hunters.

In Florida you would have to report a road kill deer to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission 24 hour number 888-404-FWCC (3922) and wait for them to show up. They have a contract to provide the meat to a needy family, whoever is next in line on their list, but they may let you keep it if there isn't a family on the list that lives close by.

We done that once or twice, most of the kills though were in Iowa

Even the 5 or 6 we find In florida and called, they said we could keep them probably because there wasn't much left of a deer that's 100 pounds lol
