Going Buck Wild.
on: December 09, 2015, 05:43:06 PM
In another thread I posted some deals on Buck knives. My interest was rekindled when I began looking for some 110 and 112 models that were different than the stock models.

I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered numerous iterations of the 110 and 112 models that fit my criteria for purchase.

Here are several that arrived on our front porch just as I was exiting to ride my Trek.

More of these after I have time to open them and post pictures.

This has several notable features. The first is the drop point blade without a nail nick and made of S30V.It also has red-wood scales with the Buck medallion and nickel silver bolsters.

Thanks Steve.

It's always a crap shoot with Sambar stag but this one turned out to be visually very pleasing.

That drop point s30v is a nice one, it must be a Buck custom shop but the Buck medallion in the handle has me confused. Can't go wrong with stag!

Thank you.

It is not a Custom shop creation. All of the knives that come from the Custom Shop have "Custom Knife Shop" engraved on the blades.I was informed by Buck that it was built for one of their dealers.

Here is another of the five that were shown in their boxes.

This one has oak wood scales, brass bolsters and 5160 steel. There is one not too noticeable difference in this knife.Hint,it has to do with the scales. Can anyone spot it?

Compare the pictures of the oak and charcoal scales and you'll have your answer.

As an aside, keep you're eye on the oak and brass version. I have been led to believe that this is a combination which should be avoided, as the oils within oak are actually detrimental (attack) brass

Exactamundo?

Very observant .The knife dealer decided to keep everything consistent, that is all brass,so he ordered a hidden pivot pin because they have to be made from nickel steel.

I'll keep an eye on that, although Buck does provide a lifetime warranty.I feel confident they will make the necessary repairs if this should occur.

I was out for my morning ride on my ever reliable Trek 2300 when it started to sprinkle. So I cut my ride short and arrived home to find a package containing another Buck knife.I saw this model being auctioned on the bay by several sellers.Being a stingy consumer I googled this model and found a considerably better price at another site.

Its distinguishing features are its Indigo blue scales with the Buck anvil logo, nickel silver bolsters and a 154CM blade. This steel was the darling of custom makers for decades. This was a buildout, which means it is the last of its kind from the factory. The date code on the blade indicates the blade was made in 1987 !
