Hi

The knife is done, had it tested today and got 50 RC......I'm happy, and it performs.

Just a question, I have about 50 pics, could I set the FB album to public and share a link here? No ways I could upload more than highlights.....?

This is wonderful knife Gerhard and I like everthing about it.I especially like the tang that extends beyond the handle which incorporates the lanyard attachment.I also like the downward extension of the back of the blade,at the front of the handle, which also incorporates a guard, which is finger/hand friendly.

Congratulations for creating such a fine knife.

Thanks TG, that's high praise indeed from somebody with a collection like yours  :salute:

Sorry the pics aren't up yet, been a busy weekend before the office nightmare resumes.

I had issues with the edge, but it must've been that bit that had the carbon burned out......that or its work-hardening
I've been chopping with it, breaking up some branches trimmed off a tree, some Camelthorn wood while we were out on a bush drive.....
Gave it some more attention with a diamond sharpener and stropped, since then the edge has been all good.
Slight tendency to twist when chopping, have a lanyard on it now but it tends to stay in hand nicely, the lanyard is not functional, it's more for safety I guess.
 >:D I suspect the reason why it feels secure in hand has something to do with the fact it takes little effort to go through stuff....

sheath done, carry attachment pending

One thing I haven't mentioned I'm a bit proud of - note the distal taper  8)  :D

This was the result of a remaining bend in the blank right at the back pin.....never noticed it thanks to the pliers holding the hot blade.

I use my new angle grinder and files to fix the flaw and achieve the tape, and that explains the slight dips in the epoxy between the tang and the Micarta - the are no actual gaps thankfully.

Thanks for all the positive feedback, very much appreciated.

I can only hope it inspires others to try, because I find it hugely satisfying as each knife gets better.

.....Sparky, build that grinder!

Not to beat around the bush, this is a backyard knife made from mystery steel, guesswork hardening and tempering side by side with some clay pot cooking in the kitchen...  :drink:
It looks nice, but I never doubted it was meant to be a user, and a test unit for future knives.
Can't afford it, so I want to make a copy of the TOPS DART next  :P
Anyway, the belt loop is maybe not the greatest, but I've been beating on the knife....

Did some batoning, which is just stupid. I was lucky not to crush knuckle, and the good news: I managed to bend the tip the tiniest bit.....
If you were there, you would be impressed!  >:D I would've broken 90% of my knives right there....
I cut plenty cardboard, chopped plenty branches, then turned them into little pieces of branches, just senselessly chopped into the Avocado stumps lying around.
I used my CS Trailhawk to sharpen the bottom ends of the poles meant to be my anywhere hammock supports, I did the same on the broken pieces with the knife and it was considerably easier!
It's not shaving sharp after that, but 10 strops later and it glides through printer paper  8)

This is a survival knife, I'm objectively happy with the results.  I love this knife already, I can give it hell and it'll take it, and I also know I will make better knives in the future.
I'm big and heavy enough that all 8mm of it feels good in my hand and on my belt.

One thing I cannot figure out, when chopping this thing just stays there in my hand, chips flying but no tendency for the knife to go flying!  The Micarta is about a 1000 grit finish and oiled, so it feels smooth.  That makes me think it's more a function of balance rather than grip.....

All the chips you see lying around plus plenty more you can't see, plus plenty more in the compost......not a single chip or roll
