Husqvarna choices
on: December 14, 2015, 10:47:05 AM
Hi All

I had friday off and was running around town looking for places to spend my money  , mostly on the lookout for a belt grinder and a few other power tools.
Walked into a place I'd never been before, saw they are Husqvarna agents as well and I had to ask......

I'm still waiting for prices, but I've been doing research and I think the Forest Axe is the one for me.
For the record, the Camping Axe is the other one I'm considering.

Please help out a relative axe newby, the Forest Axe seems to be on the light side of large axes?

I feel the CS trailhawk is a good enough hatchet for my needs and skill level, and I've been looking for something larger.

And I thought this would be about a chainsaw.

I've only had the one Husqvarna and that was one of their hatchets.  Passed it on to Mike LOTS years ago now, but I remember it being very good quality.  IIRC they are rebranded Hultafors axes, but I'm not 100% certain.

As to which one to choose; that very much depends on what you are planing to do with it.  The Forest Axe does look to be a light full sized axe.  If you are planning on carrying it around then, for me, it's going to be too big.  If you are going to be keeping it at home or in a car then it looks good.

The head profile makes me think that it'll be a good chopper, but perhaps not the best splitting axe.

I thought Husqvarna were rebranded Wetterlings. But you're right they were Hultafors, until a point I believe, and then  ??? Not sure if they still are or what.

That's the problem, I'm specifically looking for a bigger axe, won't go backpacking with it, but I might have to or want carry it a bit.....
Considering how these perform compared to what I'm used to, as well as my decidedly limited needs, I have to consider the Camping Axe.
Depending on the price I'm considering getting 2, but that throws the whole mix out the window again.  I do expect 2 to be a bit too rich.....

I got one of those too. I rather like mine.

Mine is DIY from, got the chainsaw blade with the smallest teeth, the rest is obvious.

Tried mine on several trees and the thing is just a monster, there is technique involved since it only cuts in one direction, so it helps to flip it halfway through.
I've used on a few 30cm diameter branches of a softwood in the yard, that was a joke and frankly awesome to behold.

Last year on my cousin's farm we found a downed tree across the farm track, big Acacia, I made 3 cuts in no time and we could clear it.  Right then and there I knew I had a winner.....

Now I ask you - what else can fell a tree and fits in your car's cupholder?  :gimme:

I have one that cuts both ways, and it eats through trees like crazy. You are right, not much that is going to cut that good and will fit in a cup holder.

I've seen those and badly want one.
Considering the effort it took to cut the chain and drill 2 holes slightly larger, I have to assume mine will last the rest of my lifetime.  :salute:

Starting to wonder why I want to buy an axe

I think they have been both at one time or another from what I've been reading.

Will do.
Just take note, I ordered the Viking Hand Axe........you get just a Viking Axe (also CS) as well which I don't like all that much.
I can kick myself, was in a hurry and missed it on the shop's website........could've had it already!

Bad news, all they have left is the Large Splitting axes and Hatchets.

Good news is the price is better than expected, so I ordered the Hatchet anyway.

So.......by the time this stuff arrives I'll have no money left, then I'll have to wait for February's salary to clear.......and that's all she wrote for 2016

My grinder/sander combo showed up, but instead of a Husqvarna Hatchet they sent a Husqvarna H900

Just can't get myself to buy the thing, just hope they can send it back......

I tried to find out more about it, steel is a mystery, and 1 or 2 review videos which aren't great....
