MP400 Modding Question
on: December 17, 2015, 05:34:02 PM
Here's one for the Gerber experts out there;

Is there a way to obtain a fully serrated blade that will fit in the MP400 without intricate metalworking that I lack the tools and skills to accomplish? I'm not a big fan of the combo edge, and the scissors seem capable of handling most "clean" cutting I need to do, so full serrations makes sense to me.
I'm planning to give the 400 a slot in my rotation once the December challenge is done  :tu:

Try one from a MP600.

Try one from a MP600.

Or simply take to the straight edge portion of the existing blade with a triangular diamond file and make your own serrations.  It would take a while, but you only need the file, plus a vise or some other clamp to hold the blade steady while you work.

Try one from a MP600.

As the lobster said; the one from a MP600 will just drop right in there. :tu:

The file idea makes sense, but I'd be paranoid about messing it up.
Now, dropping in a blade from a 600 makes sense. Didn't know it would fit that easy.
Though I'm not too keen on parting out my MP600 that's hardly been used... Guess I'll keep an eye on ebay and the like for a junker MP600 or parts. Thanks, guys!

Alright, I have another dumb question for you guys;

Do Suspension tools fit into the MP600/400? If so, are they similar in quality? I'm especially curious about the scissors.

I think they will work. Not 100% sure on that, though. I believe I have seen MP600s with Suspension tools in them - may have been Strata tools, not sure. Stands to reason that they would fit in the 400, too, if that's what I saw. As to quality, I have seen the flat driver snap on my buddies Suspension. I don't know anything about the scissors, though.

Avoid trying to put outboard scissors on inboard tools (and vise versa)
