Nice. you are going to need to show us what you did.

So far I only thinned out a standard bit extender. It could do with a bit of extra shaping (the space between the pliers is far from square) but I think I should go on to a hopefully better solution. Next step is to do the same with the handle shown earlier (found a bunch of quality unused hacksaw blades for cheap secondhand). I'm hoping to shape the plastic to fit snug and get rid of the wobbling that way. There should be only small forces on the gears and if I can get it snug they should be evened out. So hopefully that will work until we can see if the new Reactor head will fit our if a more long term solution is necessary.

18 seconds away from failure. I spent most of the day travelling, due to politics our railway is a mess and 150 miles ended up taking more than 4 hours... The Swedish government basically disconnected the trains from the rails and gave them different operators.

The railways might be the worst of a series of horrible cases of deregulation from former government monopolies. I'm generally all for a market economy but for some reason the deregulations seems to have worked backwards. Telephone pricing rose (we're still quite low though), painkillers got what was basically a 15% overnight rise in price when the pharmacy monopoly was broken but the railway takes the price. For many trips it's cheaper to go by car if you're two in the car (and that's with a petrol price of ~5.8 $/gallon ) and the trains run late what seems like half the time since the rails aren't maintained.

I had to re-read your post and re-check your profile to see where in the world you were posting from.  I swore you were describing how it is down here :p

Look on the bright side -- your trains run even at half the speed.  They won't leave you stuck in the middle of 2 stations or maybe have trips for half their number of stations coz there's problems on the other half of their line.

Oh yes, they would have but I was close enough to the capitol to be able to get past the breakdown via a detour (lots more alternative means of transport around there).

January 29th:

I'm over to visit my parents and today was a suit day. The P3 fits surprisingly well in the pen pocket of at least this suit jacket. Here held up to actually show, it would have been really helpful with a lanyard on it to be able to fish it out. Bonus, got some nice forgotten tools from my stashes at home (and an even better tool from my mother). Pictures will follow once I've made sure this goes out before midnight.

Posted in What did you just get? and there's little point in me using server space twice for the same pictures, so use the link if interested (if not, you might just happen by while browsing normally).

Only tang stamp is "made in Germany". So not much to go on there.

January 30th:

Another last second update, the P3 works as a cheese knife although it's far from ideal.

Edit: Really, 1 second after midnight!

January 31st:

Last day of the challenge and I can tell you it'll be nice getting to go back to normal carry although I'm surprised I havn't missed the Swisscard and Tourist more. This month hasn't given me much use for the tools but I'm not sure how well the P3 would have handled a more demanding situation.

The pliers would certainly have been up to most things thrown at them and the same goes for the blade. Most of the inside tools are ok but I wouldn't want to have to rely on the can-opener for my life. The Phillips should have been a PH2 but the worst offender (and actually the tool that makes the rest look bad for hanging in the same company) is the file. It's just a really bad file and the fact that they've added a flat driver isn't enough to save it.

I have sometimes been hard on the P3 (like today) but I think it's a fatherly kind of harsh. I can see it's potential but it just doesn't make it all the way there.

Last of all I would like to thank my fellow challengers for their nice threads. It's been a nice month reading about you guys and get your thoughts and uses for the tools. And of course a special thank you to Obi1shinobee for hosting this challenge!
