My opinion is also that it really depends on the Sheath. During the past 4 years, I've carried on my daily life many big MTs, quite a lot of them, and in many different sheaths.
After all this time, my preferences are:

Button snap > Velcro, every time
Protuding sheath < Slim compact, close to the body (whatever material)
Leather > Nylon, as Velcro tends to just disintegrate
Horizontal + Vertical carry possibilities always wins

And I've carried:

And the Powrelock, the MP600 needlenose, the original ST...I have found weight is not the determining factor...so, the easy-to-carry order for me is like this...

Wave > Multitasker > Original ST > ST300 > Swisstool > Powerlock > MP600 > Blacktip > Ganzo > Surge

so yeah, I am used to carrying big MTs on the belt but that doesn't make the Surge less of a brick. It's really uncomfortable!
My toys:

MTs: Surge (2x), Skeletool CX, Rebar, Blast, Fuse, Micra, Squirt (3x), Wave, Crunch, Mini, Spirit (2x), Pro Scout, MP700 (2x), Diesel, Powerlock, PowerPlier (2x), PocketPowerPlier, Blacktip , ST6 (2x), 5WR, A100

SAKs: Bantam, Executive, Ambassador, Minichamp, Classic Alox, Champion, Farmer, Explorer, Swisschamp, Golf Tool, Wenger Champ, EVO 52, Pocket Tool Chest

I was wondering if those of us who work outdoors are more likely to carry larger MTs.  Maybe more tradesmen and women vs say office or non trades.  I'm not apt to carry a larger MT on off day vs work days.  I prefer my Wave for when I'm off vs say my Surge, OHT, MUT or Swisstool.

In my time as a maintenance Engineer and a Machinist, I never carried a bigger tool for long, I carried a Blast, wave, pulse, or Rebar.  My hands are normal size and the regular full size line of tools fits them best.  Apart from that, whenever I needed larger tools, I had dedicated tools that were suited for the job.  In fact, as far as I can recall, I hardly ever used my Multitool in those jobs; I use it far more now that I'm not in those positions.  I guess since my toolbox and tool bag are at home, the Multi on my belt is all I have.

I find myself carrying the bigger m/t's when I'm working outside or doing some heavy duty work inside.  I carry the smaller ones as EDC's more often than not.  For me, it's easier to handle the larger ones when I'm wearing gloves.

I just carry my 292 grams heavy Swisstool x in my jeans left front pocket. In jeans i don't even notice the tool is there, but in jogging or track pants you definately notice it is there.

If it gets too heavy for EDC'ing i will buy the lighter Spirit X, but i am getting attached to this tool because i have it for two years :D

Do it! They're one of the best MTs for the price out there. If you live in the UK, Heinnie has them on sale at ridiculous prices.

I admit, I've bought more than one from them.

Couldn't resist the killer deal!

The OHO Blade, clip and OHO Shears are a brutal combo, really nice features you don't usually see on a MT.

I do have to say that i carry my Swisstool in a sheath but it is only about ten times a year when i work at my holiday work.

I don't classify the Swisstool as to heavy for pocket carry. I think size is more important than weight. Although the Swisstool is longer it still is thinner than a leatherman wave.
And for all the tools you get it is really fitted in a relatively small package.

I do think Victorinox should make a bit adapter that slides over the Phillips head just like leatherman has and also make those bit strips.
Also make sheaths that can carry those bit strips and extenders.
Those are the kind of inventions where leatherman really is a step in front of Victorinox.
