TiNi Powerlock patent pending
on: February 03, 2016, 03:39:54 AM
New to this forum, but it seems like my best bet to get more information on my SOG. So I scored a TiNi Powerlock at a garage sale a while back. After looking at pics of others online, I noticed that mine differs in that it has no patent number, just patent pending. Any one else seen this? Was this an early run of this tool? I'd just like to know if if have something special (besides it being a TiNi Powerlock, of course).  I can post pics later if anyone is interested.

Welcome to the boards mate.      I don't have the answer but those in the know will probably be along shortly.

Here's one I had on my phone. Let me know if pics of any specific components would be helpful.

I won't even tell you how little I paid for it. The guy had another one with the plain finish that I kick myself for not buying. I didn't realize what it was at the time. I paid $40, btw. ;)

I've seen LM Waves on sale for $20 a piece before, I kick myself for not buying the place out of stock.

I have not seen a TiNi in person and none for sale at my local flea markets at all.  Congrats and excellent score.

My luck got better, I scored an original Leatherman for a price that makes me happy. Unused, factory edge, I think I'll just collect it.

I'd say that's an early PowerLock and that's why it's market Patent Pending.  I am pretty sure that patent refers to the compound leverage gears and has nothing to do with the TiNi coating.

That is a hell of a score on that tool- if you ever feel like giving it up, please let me know.  I'd consider paying a lot more than what you did for it.

See what the mailman brought me today  Notice the handle only has "Patent" on it, no "Pending", no number...  :P Is it unusual? The folder is an Airsog.

Nice      :tu:

Well, no TiNi SOG is common, but I have seen more TiNi Powerlocks with only "Patent" than ones with "Patent Pending" or "Patent 5809599".

Like I said, TiNi SOG MTs aren't very common, but they do turn up on the bay of fleas from time to time:

How badly do you want one ?  Which will bring us to the next question - How deep are your pockets ?

At $500 that guy wants    :o , you may as well disassemble a regular Power Lock and find someone TiNi coat the parts  :P
