Does anyone metal detect?
on: February 15, 2016, 02:59:00 PM
Thinking about getting into it, I've had a Garretts for years since I was young, my grandfather was very into it.

Is there a place on the forum better suited to ask this?

I've got a Garrett Ace 250, and since about every inch of Belgium has been a war zone some time in the past, there's nice stuff to be found in most places.  I've found musket balls, military buttons, shrapnell balls, bullets (lots and lots of bullets ...), shells, old coins, a roman coin and my friend even found a gold medieval coin.

It's been a while since I took my Ace to the fields, but it's on my "tot do" list  ;).

Here you can see some musket balls:

A German World War I bullet:

And some Belgian World War I bullets:

Some Belgian buttons from World War I:

World War II bullets:

Old coins, shrapnell, shrapnell balls, musket balls, a small old weight, ... :

And more shrapnell balls, coins, old belt buckles, ... :

And some action pics:

Oops, that last one was the wrong pic ...  :D

I plan on getting out soon as well, I need to brush up on current regulations regarding detecting. Unfortunately, I would imagine I live in one of, if not the most culturally rich parts of the US, but it also happens to be the most liberal, highly regulated; Massachusetts.

In my location, I have found nothing other than slightly older pocket change. Still fun to get out sometimes however. I envy locations with a lot of much older metal history to discover.

I have a pair of Bounty Hunter metal detectors. A landstar and a Discovery 3300. I can easily recommend them for a look as well.

This.  My son and I had a detector tho I cannot recall the brand .  Lots of random metal and coins ( pennies ) however nothing of real value or interest.

Yes, it will find every material in which electrical currents can be induced,
which includes all metals if not oxidized.
