Craftsman Tough Tool?
on: March 13, 2016, 01:18:16 AM
Recently came across this on Ebay.  It's a USA made Schrade ST5E Tough Tool (according to the MTO encyclopedia) rebranded as Craftsman.   Are these rare or anything?  I know Craftsman had a similar arrangement with Kershaw, and had offered a rebranded Kershaw A100 at one time.

Photo attached for future reference when the listing is long gone.

Also found a US made Tough Chip rebranded as Craftsman.

That is a Craftsman 45471 (as you say, a rebranded Schrade ST5).  These are known for having tough, slipjoint pliers (so they can grab larger objects).  They also had a 1/4" hex bit driver, which sometimes came with a very versatile 3-piece bit (2 flat screwdriver bits and 2 philips).  I wouldn't rate them as particularly rare, but certainly not common.  They pop up on ebay from time to time, as does the ST5.  I probably see the 45471 version slightly more often than the ST5.

Back in the day Craftsman seemed to have rebranding deals going with quite a few "name" brand quality MT manufacturers (I have some made by Schrade, Kershaw, Bear Jaws and Seber - there may be others).
